Local Golf Professional Plays For Children & Gives Back

Don ReaDon Rea is an accomplished golf professional — he’s the Owner/Operator of Augusta Ranch Golf Club, President of Your Source Golf and the Secretary of the PGA of America’s Southwest Section. He is known throughout the golf world as a gentleman and a truly respected member of their fraternity.

On Sunday, September 5, 2010, Rea will display his charitable side when he’ll participate in the El Zaribah Shriners’ inaugural 100-Hole Golf Marathon. This important event will take place at the aforementioned Augusta Ranch Golf Club.

"I’ve done golf marathons before, but never on my new titanium/ceramic hip.” Rea stated referencing his recent hip replacement surgery. “I will be playing 100 holes of golf for the Shriners, as a Shriner! I was a Shriners kid growing up and I am walking today because of them. Please spread the word to all of your friends and family and let’s see how far this message can reach. Thank you in advance for your support."

The event begins promptly at 7:00 am and will end at 5:00 pm or when golfers finish their mission. The event’s goal is to obtain $30,000 in pledges/donations. The Phoenix-based El Zaribah Shrine is a part of Shriners International. Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. There are approximately 340,000 members from 193 temples (chapters) in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and the Republic of Panama. There are over 3,000 members alone in Arizona.

Shriners International supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care at Shriners Hospitals and receive all services regardless of the patients' ability to pay.

This event is being held, not for the Shriners Hospitals For Children, but for the El Zaribah Shriners General Fund. This fund is what keeps the El Zaribah Shriners going (they incur a monthly cost of $30,000 just to open their doors) and without these funds, they cannot help the kids.

Net proceeds from this event are for the benefit of El Zaribah Shriners. Payments are not deductible as charitable contributions.
