New golf school proves effective for junior, amateur and professional golfers

Jeff Fisher & Ryan HogueIn its first full year, OB Sports Golf Academy emerged as fertile grounds for a number of competitive golf success stories emerging from this innovative golf school at Longbow Golf Club. In the junior ranks, more than 50 kids participated representing 15 different high schools and several junior high schools. Six students received division-one college scholarships and two students, Mina Harigae and Sun Gyoung Park, competed in the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont Country Club. Park, competing as an amateur, made a hole-in-one on the 175-yard, par-3 sixth hole. A complete listing of achievements by the academy’s junior golf students is listed below.

In addition to juniors, amateurs and professionals playing out of that OB Sports Golf Academy also earned distinction in 2010 with a first-place finish at the 2010 Nevada Open; a first-place finish at the 2010 Arizona Golf Association Amateur Stroke Play; a second-place finish at the 2010 Mesa City Amateur and two wins at Nationwide Tour Monday qualifiers.

"Our students truly had a great 2010,” stated Jeff Fisher, Director of Instruction for the OB Sports Golf Academy. “And honestly I’m not surprised. We have a bunch of players across the junior, amateur and professional ranks who are passionate about the game, they work hard and the results speak from themselves. But we also have a bunch of students who are not interested in competing; instead, they look at golf as more of a recreational pastime. We’re simply here to help them reach their own goals, whatever they may be.”

Located at Longbow Golf Club in North Mesa, Arizona, the OB Sports Golf Academy is a comprehensive golf instruction program that is dedicated to enhancing the student’s golf skills as well as guiding their overall development as a golfer. Led by Director of Instruction, Jeff Fisher, and Director of Player Development, Stacie Bryan, students of the academy benefit from personalized instruction along every step of their development as a golfer. While the academy offers instructional programs for adults, the junior program at OB Sports Golf Academy is unique in that it is designed to recognize each golfer’s personal goals within the game, and implement a customized lesson plan to reach that goal. Then, junior golfers are matched to the appropriate starting point based on their initial skills – Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Elite. Each level of the program prepares the students for the next level, and periodic skills tests are used to determine when a golfer is ready to jump to the next level. The OB Sports Golf Academy motto is: Learn. Practice. Play! Students receive lessons, unlimited practice time and the ability to play for one very reasonable monthly fee. The group instruction fees start at just $150 per month and include: weekly instruction with OB Sports Golf Academy teaching professionals, a monthly practice card for complimentary practice balls and complimentary golf after 3 pm at Longbow Golf Club.
