Compete in the Inaugural Phoenix City Team Championship

Phoenix GolfPhoenix has been afflicted with golf fever for decades. At the beginning of each PGA Tour golf season, legions of revelers and golf fans faithfully invade TPC Scottsdale for the Waste Management – don’t call me FBR Open. Now it’s your turn to take center stage and claim golf immortality.

The inaugural City of Phoenix Team Championship will be conducted Dec. 4-5, 11-12 on four area golf courses – Cave Creek, Encanto, Maryvale and Aguila. A unique tournament to say this least, this 2-person team event features four days, four rounds and four formats.

Saturday Dec. 4 is a scramble format at Cave Creek. The second leg is a Chapman Scotch competition at Encanto on Sunday, Dec. 5. In the Chapman Scotch or Pinehurst format, golfers tee off and then hit their partner’s tee shot. After the second shots are hit the team plays only one of the balls (of their choice), alternating strokes, until holed.

Round three will be played at Maryvale golf course on Saturday, Dec. 11 and will be contested using the better ball format. The final and deciding round will be contested under the unforgiving “combined total” format.

The tournament is sponsored by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. For more information on the event and participating golf courses, please visit
