Janecek’s shot (11’ 7”) was closest to the 150-yard hole and he selected a one-year membership to Encanterra, a Trilogy Country Club, and a full set of PING clubs as his prizes.

Unfortunately, no one became a millionaire during this year, but all of the top 30 finishers in the morning’s preliminaries earned daily prizes and then the best three shots in the finals had their choice of a trio of fabulous prizes.

Golfers took aim at the million dollar hole, which was flanked by two holes worth $50,000.

Thirty-four golfers took 43 shots in the finals, 10 of which landed on the green, warranting measurements. Golfers qualified for the finals during preliminaries that ran from Nov. 4 -14 at the driving range of the Arizona Biltmore Country Club.

Second-place finisher Sam Saunders of Buckeye, Arizona, actually hit one of the $50,000 hole pins before his shot settled 12’ 3/8” from the million dollar hole. Saunders selected a three-night trip at the Fairmont St. Andrews in Scotland with a chance to play the legendary Old Course at St. Andrews

Third-place finisher and past Hole-in-One champ Dave Reiter of Glendale, Arizona, earned three shots in the finals by nailing three aces during the 10-day preliminaries. In the finals, his best shot landed 12’ 5” from the million dollar hole. Reiter won a 10-day cruise for two on the Holland America Line.

For $1 a shot, over 1,100 amateur golfers hit more than 125,000 balls at a 125-yard hole.
