Legends Golf Course-A Masterpiece From Kite, Bechtol & Russell

The dictionary defines "legend" as a fable or myth, an unverifiable story handed down by tradition and accepted as history But, the grand re-opening of The Legends Golf Course near Kingsland is no myth. New ownership has greatly improved the course c nditions and quality of service, re-establishing Legends as a great getaway for the entire golf gang, or that special someone you might want to spend time with on and off the course.

With spectacular hilltop vistas and lakefront views of the Colorado arm of Lake LBJ, Legends is a welcoming enclave for those who enjoy the great outdoors, good times and grand company, and also are passionate about golf in the heart of Texas Hill Country. Its also an easy commute from Austin, Marble Falls, Georgetown, Round Rock and San Antonio.

The centerpiece of the Legends complex is the 7,260-yard championship 18-hole course designed by a true Texas legend, Austin's Tom Kite, with renowned architects Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell. Their very playable layout, which also has tees measuring down to just over 5,200 yards and was planned before the surrounding community, features an exposed, wide-open, links-style front nine down near the lake with views of the Backsaddle Mountains, and a shorter, but narrower and more tree-lined back nine that's every bit as challenging for the scratch golfer or one less-experienced.

The variety of holes is unique, with par-3s that'll send you to your bag for a different club on each one, to the possibly driveable par-4 14th with its 60-yard wide fairway (though the smart play is to hit a long iron or hybrid and a wedge in), to a fabulous finishing par-5 that plays straight uphill to the clubhouse. The 18th finishes a great run of four holes that General Manager Rob Strain says will make or break your round. And the hiring of superintendent Neal Keller away from The Hills in Austin has paid dividends already with newly established mow lines and a tree planting project that is helping re-define some of the fairways.

The clubhouse and full-service restaurant are all in one building now along with a meeting facility for groups of all sizes. With new parking and a complete practice facility, Legends has all the extras to make your outing for 4 or 144 a rousing success.

If you're planning a small corporate retreat or want to make your visit even more special, check out the 16 new fully-appointed, 700-square-foot villas that all come with outdoor decks. The area has become a popular destination for connoisseurs of Hill Country wines. Boating and fishing are accessible within just a couple minutes drive of the clubhouse, hiking trails abound and the accessibility to all types of wildlife have made bird hunting and bird watching almost as popular as the birdie hunting on the golf course.

A revitalized golf course, stunning views, and amenities that even include a place to stay on-site make Legends Golf Course a story worth telling, a legend in the making. Except this one's all true.
