The Club at ConCan

The Club at ConCanSince its gala opening in the warm and inviting month of May, 2007, in the deep Southwest of Texas, the sumptuous and luxurious The Club at ConCan has provided extraordinary golfing experiences for all its special guests. In a very important sense, the Club at ConCan is its owners: Kenneth and Barbara Arthur, who are there to see that a pleasurable time is exactly what happens for each and every member or guest, as only a family-owned-and-operated and family-oriented business really can.

They personally intend for and assure that each golfer will leave feeling like he or she is “part of the family” and will be hugely satisfied with his or her visit. Certainly, “heads will roll” if you are not catered to in a royal manner. The long-married and totally dedicated couple see to it.

Indeed, hard work has been the Arthur’s life-long motto, and each golfer will recognize that fact upon arrival. They are proud of their well deserved reputation and daily renew their commitment to all who play the course.

This exemplary dedication is evident in these facts:

  • Determined that their guests experience only the best. The 18-hole championship course is a Bechtol-Russel design; a one-of-a-kind destination course.
  • The Club at ConCan course is open year-round. One of the important focuses for the Arthurs was expandingthe tourist season in Concan, which in the past was often thought of as a summer destination.
  • Owners Barbara and Kenneth ArthurThe Club boasts world-class golf operations management. Kenneth and Barbara Arthur personally own the golf club, along with The Spa at Mountain Valley, the House Pasture Cattle Company restaurant, catering business, and event venue, Frio Construction Company, the Frio Country Store, and Frio Country Resort. There will defi nitely never be a change in ownership. The couple does, however, employ an outside consulting firm to handle the ongoing maintenance management, keep the course on the right track agronomically operate the pro-shop, plan and hold tournaments, and teach golf lessons.  Even with all of the professional help, the Arthurs are continually involved in every operational aspect themselves and make the final decisions on every point. Meetings are regular and ongoing. To ensure that their goals are met and their personal business philosophy is intact, Kenneth and Barbara work closely with their excellent and proven marketing and management team Southern Golf Properties—featuring CEO John Junker and President and Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teacher Bryan Gathright--to offer everything from golf tournaments to very personal help with straightening hooks and curing slices.  Both Bryan’s and John’s long-term teaching philosophies have been that it is all about the excellence of the game in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Indeed, improvement in your game at The Club at ConCan makes everyone happy.
  • As an all-inclusive resort, golfers at The Club at ConCan can expect every need to be met, from fine dining to staying the weekend or overnight, with their choice from a wide variety of options in comfortable, clean, even luxury lodging. Also, food and drinks may be ordered within the Club lodge itself, of course.

Additional positive points are that the Club is only an hour-and– a-half from San Antonio and is set in the glorious Frio Valley, along the sparkling jewel of the Frio River. Expect to see white-tail deer and other wildlife playing amid the cozily set cabins and lodges throughout the area. Along with the aforementioned unparalleled Southwestern Texas hospitality, a great deal of the enjoyment of a trip to The Club is the grandeur of the scenery in this part of the celebrated beauty of the Hill Country.

The important point to remember about The Club at ConCan is the owner’s primary emphasis on getting results that matter for their guests and members. Everyone who has been there will assure newcomers that they are in for an exciting, stimulating, relaxing, gratifying time. They will tell you to expect to improve your game, while thoroughly enjoying the whole process. If you and your golf partners don’t leave with big smiles on your faces, Kenneth and Barbara Arthur are personally going to want to know why!
