Everything Coming Up Dufner

One marriage, two PGA Tour wins in 22 days for golfer

It has been a memorable month for Jason Dufner. The 35-year-old professional golfer from Auburn, Ala., won the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday, sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole to secure a one-stroke victory over Dicky Pride at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas. It was Dufner’s second PGA Tour victory in four weeks. His first win came on April 29 at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. He also recently got married. That makes it one wife and two PGA Tour victories in 22 days.

“You probably couldn’t dream it any better than what’s been going on here,” Duffner said. “The wedding has been in the works for close to a year, so we knew that was coming around the corner. There has been a lot of good golf since then. To wins, two events and get married in the span of 22 days, pretty remarkable.”

With the long birdie putt, Dufner finished the round 3-under 67 and 11-under 269 for the tournament, claiming the $1.17 million prize. He moves up to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings. He had no PGA Tour wins coming into this season and was best known for losing the 2011 PGA Championship in a playoff to Keegan Bradley. Ironically, Bradley was the defending champion of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

“It’s just such a fine line out here between winning, finishing second or 10th,” Dufner said. “When I’ve been on the other side of it, I always took encouragement from it -- that I was playing great golf and my time would come.”

It certainly has.
