Meet Art Stricklin

Art StricklinArt Stricklin is an award-winning Texas golf writer and current president of the Texas Golf Writers Association. After graduating from Baylor University in 1983 with a double major, he spent more than a decade working for Texas newspapers including three years as the golf writer for the San Antonio Express-News.

Stricklin has now written a total of seven books including, ‘Thanks for the Memories,’ on the history of the Northwood Club in Dallas and Links, Lore & Legends: The Story of Texas Golf.

He formed his own company, Stricklin Free-Lance & Books in 1995, where he has became one of Texas’ foremost experts on golf history and travel, personally witnessing nearly every professional and amateur golf tournament played in the state and talking with every historic figure. 

Stricklin has personally played more than 2/3 of the state’s 800 courses, and in 2009 he received one of the state’s highest golfing honors when he was named president of the Texas Golf Writers Association.

His work has been published in dozens of national, regional and international publications including Sports Illustrated, Golf Connoisseur, Texas Monthly, American Way, D Magazine, Texas Golfer, Reuters, The (Chinese) People Workers’ Daily, the British Open Program, R&A Yearbook and Augusta National Golf Club. He has won dozens of awards including Texas writer and story of the year and a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in Public Service.

Stricklin lives in Plano north of Dallas, with his wonderful wife and two great daughters and continues his writing, travel, editing and public relations career.
