Reserve Your Spot in the First Annual Cowboy Capital Junior Shootout

Reserve Your Spot in the First Annual Cowboy Capital Junior ShootoutBandera’s Flying L Guest Ranch will host the first annual Cowboy Capital Junior Shootout presented by Central Texas Golfer’s Guide this summer. The event scheduled for July 13-15 will engage talented golfers ages 7-18 in fierce competition while giving families a prime opportunity to enjoy each other’s company in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

The inaugural tournament is open to all boys and girls ages 7-18 as of June 13, 2010. A registration fee of $180 ($150 for those who register prior to May 15th) covers all tournament greens fees, dinner for players and family members Tuesday and Wednesday, and complimentary entry for tournament participants into the Flying L’s Water Park and brand new putt-putt course. Golfers will also receive a Nike cap, golf balls and a tournament t-shirt.

The Junior Shootout will be contested on the 6,646-yard Flying L Golf Course, a varied terrain featuring rolling hills, large oak trees and dramatic views of the surrounding Hill Country. Emphasizing a brisk but unhurried pace of play, juniors ages 7-10 will play nine holes Tuesday-Thursday, while any competitor age 11 and up will play the full 18 holes. Caddies are allowed! Tournament flights and the number of awards handed out will be determined by the size of the tournament field.

Off the course, families and junior golfers will have the opportunity to come together after each round under one roof, making the event one of the most unique on the summer calendar.

Tournament Director Bill Chapman encourages families to take advantage of special room rates during the tournament and stay on-site at the Flying L. He noted that the value present in this tournament package isn’t something groups visiting the resort are able to replicate.

“If you were to come out here on your own, it wouldn’t be close,” said Chapman of the incredible deal the weekof the event. “To be able to do some of the stuff we’re offering and to stay on the ranch itself…just the water park alone would run close to $100. These kids, our players, are getting free entry each day, and it’s just $10 more for each additional family member. The two free meals we’re offering is another tremendous deal. Normally a meal at the ranch for a family of four is more than $50.”

The inspiration for the Cowboy Capital Junior Shootout was a familyfriendly junior golf tournament Chapman attended with his daughter in Waco a number of years ago. He instantly recognized that the Flying L, with its bounty of family activities (Water Park, putt-putt course, horseback riding, etc…) was the perfect Hill Country venue to recreate such an atmosphere.

Flying L Guest RanchChapman hopes that this event will be a valuable new addition to the junior golf scene in Central Texas.

“This area already has the best junior golf program in the nation,” Chapman said. “There are about 3,000 kids in leagues and we host an event at the Flying L from time to time, but this will be a totally different atmosphere. It’s still going to be a very competitive event and we’re hoping to attract some really good golfers. At the same time, it’s centered on the family.”
