Valero Texas Open Field Shaping Up

Adam Scott will play in the Valero Texas OpenThe 2010 Valero Texas Open player field is getting stronger with the addition of Australian, Adam Scott, one of the PGA Tour’s brightest young stars.

Adding the Valero Texas Open to his schedule makes perfect sense for Scott considering the success he has had in the Lone Star State and the fact that his golf hero is countryman Greg Norman, designer of the AT&T Oaks Course, where this year’s Valero Texas Open will be played.

Scott is a six-time champion on the PGA Tour, including a win at The PLAYERS Championship (2004) and two Texas victories: the 2007 Shell Houston Open, (where he also had a strong T14 in 2010) and the 2008 EDS Byron Nelson.

This will mark Scott’s first appearance in San Antonio and first start in the Valero Texas Open.

Scott isn't only a champion on the PGA Tour, he is also an eight-time winner on the European Tour, quite a feat for a player that has been playing professionally for less than a decade.

Scott ranks 44th in the World Golf Ranking for 2010. Scott joins another top international player, Sergio Garcia, who teamed up with Greg Norman in his role as the PGA Tour Player Consultant on the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio and will be making his first appearance here since 2002.

The field also boasts two-time defending champion Zach Johnson, and includes two members of the 2008 Ryder Cup team, Justin Leonard and Chad Campbell.

Leonard, a three-time Valero Texas Open winner, has had a slow start this year but always gains momentum when heading into The Lone Star State. Campbell, a quiet but strong player and a native Texan, is playing solidly in 2010 with 1 top-10 and 2 top-25 finishes in only 11 starts. John Daly and David Duval will also be in San Antonio as they continue their efforts to elevate their games as past Major Champions.

The tournament expects to announce another group of strong names in the upcoming days.
