The Royal Country Clubs: When Where You Play Really Matters

plaza-santo-domingo-lores.jpgAsk any golfer and they’ll be quick to tell you, the most important thing to them whenever they tee it up is how well they play. Whether it’s on the inestimable Old Course at St. Andrews or the “Ole Muni” two towns over, and whether they’re playing for the Claret Jug in Scotland or bragging rights in St. Charles, posting the lowest possible score – and white-washing their competitors in the process – is pre-eminent. But running a very close second to the how of it is the where of it, as golfers by and large love the thought of surrounding themselves, if only for a few hours, in an environment, an atmosphere, that bespeaks the best the sport has to offer, from great service to impeccable course conditions to a clubhouse that members are proud to call home.

That’s why, increasingly, when everyday life simply won’t do, golfers with the means and the motivation are stepping into The Royal Country Clubs, and stepping outside the ordinary world.

Naturally beautiful surroundings and beautifully refined settings create an exceptional haven for recreation, socializing, meeting and celebrating life. The management and staff of The Royal Country Clubs know full well that beyond the impeccable golf courses, exquisite cuisine and dining, the intangibles are what complete your country club experience.
The feeling of belonging each time you enter the clubhouse, the way the staff fulfills not only your requests but also your desires, the way other club Members welcome your presence, not to mention the lasting friendships that are established along the way – these are the qualities that make The Royal Country Clubs, 72 holes of outstanding golf and extraordinary club facilities and amenities, your home away from home.

The Royal Fox
Built in 1989, quality and prestige are reflected in the elegant surroundings at Royal Fox Country Club (located in St Charles), which has been awarded the honor of hosting the prestigious Illinois PGA Open five times in 11 years, a true testament to the challenge that lies ahead of you when you tee it up on the first hole. Designed by Richard Nugent to evolve around the existing natural environment, The Royal Fox is a challenging, 6,816-yard par-71 championship golf course.
Under new ownership since 1999, The Royal Fox has gone through many changes since then, including improvements to a number of holes, upgrades to the practice facility and the remodeling of the clubhouse, all undertaken to establish The Royal Fox among the elite Clubs in the area.

The Royal Hawk
Built in the wooded countryside of St. Charles, The Royal Hawk Country Club is a private, members-only club offering rustic farmhouse charm and panoramic views of the Fox River Valley. Royal Hawk is built on 180 acres of rolling hills and offers a par-72 championship course stretching 6,600 yards from the back tees, providing challenges for golfers of all skill levels.
Offering a variety of golf and social memberships, with affiliate privileges for their members at The Royal Fox Country Club, The Grove Country Club and Klein Creek Golf Club, the club features exclusive dining and golf and fitness accommodations, along with private function rooms and distinctive places for hosting special events.
Built in 2006, the clubhouse is furnished in true country club tradition. Modeled after the Mount Vernon home of President George Washington, it’s the destination of choice for a casual bite to eat after a round of golf, or an upscale dinner to kick off the weekend. The outstanding culinary team has created a superb menu for both formal and casual dining, and also offer excellent catering services for private functions.

Klein Creek

Located in Winfield, Klein Creek is a stunning 18-hole course, and at 6,700 yards from the tips, this championship design is challenging for even the most accomplished players. Each hole is designed to create a memorable golfing experience, while four sets of tees allow the high handicapper to enjoy a satisfying day on the links. The course has remained semi-private and offers additional privileges to the members of The Royal Country Clubs.

The Grove Country Club

The 18-hole Royal Country Club in Long Grove is a private course that first opened in 1964. Measuring more than 7,000 yards from the back tees and with a slope rating of 133 and a USGA rating of 74.2, good golfers appreciate the course for its unique qualities and inherent challenge, while four other sets of tees, ranging from 6,800 to 5,000 yards, make The Royal Country Club of Long Grove eminently playable for any ability level. Lush bentgrass fairways and “fast but fair” bentgrass greens assure the quality of play. Sixty-three strategic bunkers, out-of-bounds on every hole, water in-play on eight holes and thousands of mature trees assure you’ll have to work for a low score.

The Royal Member/Guest Experience
Upon arrival at The Private Country Clubs guests are greeted at the bag drop area where an attendant tags your bag and transports it to a golf cart. The Locker Room Manager assigns you a locker in proximity to that of your host, and assists you in any and every way possible.
The professional staff is there to answer any questions you may have regarding the golf course, the event in which you are participating, the schedule, tee times or directions around the facility. The fully stocked Golf Shops can accommodate any of your golfing needs including equipment, apparel or accessories.
They’ll also arrange for your transportation to the practice tees – located just north of the clubhouse – while there are two putting greens located at each course for members’ guests to use. The Royal Country Clubs take pride in their caddie program, and both members and guests are encouraged to use caddies whenever they’re available. “Do-it-yourselfers” will be pleased to find that all courses are equipped for laser link range finders.
The Halfway House serves daily specials, sandwiches, fresh fruit and much more. It can be reached at the end of the ninth hole at The Royal Fox and at the Clubhouse at The Royal Hawk, and you may call ahead using your cell phone – which must be set to “vibrate” mode whenever you’re on Club property – to order.
After a challenging round, members and their guests find solace in the classic styled Clubhouses, where they will enjoy luxurious amenities including the formal dining rooms, the saloon, and the patio overlooking the impeccable greens and lush fairways. Whether relaxing with friends or entertaining clients and associates, members and their guests spend their time immersed in luxury and beauty.
