Top 8 Spots Solidified For U.S. Ryder Cup Team

The top eight spots for the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Team are now official. So who’s in for the U.S.?

Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson will all compete for the U.S. team in the 2012 Ryder Cup, set for Sept. 25-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.

All eight qualifiers have won at least one time in 2012 and account for 12 wins overall this season, highlighted by Woods with three and Dufner and Johnson with two apiece. Watson, of course, won the Masters in April, while Kuchar won The Players in May and Simpson took the U.S. Open in June.

U.S. Captain Davis Love III will make his four captain's picks on Tuesday, Sept. 4. That will round out the team that heads to Medinah to face Captain Jose Maria Olazabal's European side. Who will Love look to with his picks?

Hunter Mahan finished the point-getting period in ninth, despite winning twice in 2012, including the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Ryder Cup veterans Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk finished at No. 10 and No. 11, respectively. Both those players have been past playing partners of Woods in the Ryder Cup.

Rickie Fowler, Brandt Snedeker, Bo Van Pelt and Dustin Johnson are also on the radar.

In other Ryder Cup news, general public tickets are now available for the 39th Ryder Cup Gala on Sept. 26 at the Akoo Theatre in Rosemont, Ill. Following red carpet arrivals with this year's Ryder Cup teams and other celebrities from the sports world, the Gala will include appearances by U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III and European Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal and world-class entertainment, including music from the Grammy Award-winning band Chicago. As the first-ever Ambassador for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Justin Timberlake will also appear at the Gala. Various Windy City icons and other special guests will also be announced prior to the event.

The event will begin at 8:30 p.m. CDT, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Ryder Cup Gala range in price from $200 to $300 and are available to the general public at or by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000.
