Meadowlands Honors the Armed Forces

For the 5th consecutive year, the members of Meadowlands CC in Blue Bell will open their doors and golf course to returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Known as Armed Forces Appreciation Day, the event will be held on Monday October 24 and run in cooperation with PA National Guard units and members of the Reserve Center at Willow Grove.

As in past years, the club will allow play on its course by all veterans who register. There’s a continental breakfast, and after play, a buffet lunch. Members of Meadowlands will help serve the meals, will handle the golf bags as veterans arrive and will serve as forecaddies on the course. This event has become a source of great pride and gratification to the club. “There is no sacrifice, nr nobler duty than to serve your country”, stresses Meadowlands CC president Gilbert Benjamin. “We feel this is the least we can do to say thanks to our men and women in uniform”.

Families of the veterans are also invited for lunch and to enjoy the club’s swimming pool and tennis facilities. “It’s a genuine labor of love” says event chairman Dr. Earl Rochvarg. “We will have over 90 members volunteering their time for the day”.
