CME Titleholders Event Headed to Naples in 2012

Naples, FL. – The culminating event of the 2012 LPGA Tour season, the CME Group Titleholders, will be played at TwinEagles in Naples Nov. 15 – 18, 2012, tournament officials announced today. Next November, the Naples community, already rich in golf tradition, will host the world’s best female golfers following a season-long qualifying process as they compete for a $1.5 million purse and a $500,000 first-place check.

“CME Group has been a friend of the LPGA for years and our players’ experiences with them have proved that they are innovators and know how to run first-class dynamic events,” said LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan. “We are confident that the Naples community will embrace this unique event. The season-long Ticket to the CME Group Titleholders campaign allows us to highlight each of our title partners, CME Group and our top performing players on weekly basis.”

While Naplesis already home to a premier Champions Tour stop, The ACE Group Classic, and a post-season PGA TOUR event, the Franklin Templeton Shootout, a visit from the LPGA Tour has been missing since 2001 following the final year of the Subaru Memorial.

“We have had such tremendous success with the LPGA in the past through our annual Global Financial Leadership Conference that we are thrilled to partner with them again,” said CME Group Executive Chairman Terry Duffy. “Sponsoring this one-of-a-kind Titleholders event will effectively extend the reach of the CME Group brand and allow us new opportunities to engage with our customers globally.”

The 2011 LPGA Tour schedule features the inaugural CME Group Titleholders, a season finale with a field made up of three qualifiers representing every official LPGA Tour tournament, a format never previously used in professional golf. The “Countdown to Titleholders” is a season-long unifying program that showcases the best performing players from the 2011 LPGA Tour season, and also highlights each and every title sponsor on the LPGA Tour. The Titleholders has long been a part of the LPGA Tour schedule, but the CME Group Titleholders is a unique tournament with a new history beginning in 2011.

The LPGA Tour and the Naples area have a storied past, beginning with the 1961 Naples Pro-Am which was won by Louise Suggs at the Naples Beach Club. From 1961-2001, the LPGA Tour held events in Naples12 times. Most recently, the Subaru Memorial was held from 1999-2001 with current LPGA Tour player Sophie Gustafson winning the 2001 edition over Karrie Webb.

“In addition to The ACE Group Classic, the TwinEagles community will serve as the backdrop for the LPGA’s season finale in 2012, the CME Group Titleholders, which is a fit in both form and function,” said Tournament Director, Lesley Baker. “Octagon looks forward to partnering with the LPGA and CME Group, along with our long standing partners in Naples, to produce a world-class event showcasing the very best in the game.”

The CME Group Titleholders will also be making history as the first event from any tour to be played at the completely redesigned Eagle course, one of two at TwinEagles. The course, originally designed by Gary Player, was reimagined and overhauled by Steve Smyers who is also leading the redesign of the Evian Golf Club, home to the LPGA Tour’s fifth major, The Evian, beginning in 2013.

“TwinEagles has one of the most beautiful natural settings in Florida. Steve Smyers incorporated that beauty in the design of the new Eagle Course, while creating a set of challenges that golfers are going to love,” said Anthony Solomon, executive vice president of The Ronto Group. “TwinEagles is now, without a doubt, where the pro’s play in Southwest Florida.”
