Fans Vote Watson PGA Tour's Top Player for April

Master champion Bubba Watson wasn’t in the Wells Fargo Championship last week at Quail Hollow. You won’t see him in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass this week, either.

After finishing tied for 18th place in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on April 29, Watson has decided to take it easy in the month of May.

He announced the following on Twitter: “I plan to take at least a month off. The Players is one of the best weeks of the year, but I’ll be bonding with my son. I’m sorry to disappoint fans, but the Players has one of the best fields all year, and the tournament is more than fine without me.”

Watson is currently ranked fourth in the world. On Wednesday he was named April’s PGA Tour Player of the Month, based on fan voting. Jason Dufner finished second, Carl Pettersson was third and Hunter Mahan was fourth.

Watson has finished in the top 25 in all nine of his starts this year, earning a PGA Tour best $3,204,778. He is currently second in the FedExCup standings with 1,372 points. With his all-pink PING G20 driver, he leads the PGA Tour in driving distance at 315.1 yards. He is also second on the tour with a 74.31 greens in regulation percentage.
