Register for the Inaugural Golfer's Guide National Team Classic

Golfer's Guide National Team Classic benefitting Toast to HumanityGolfer’s Guide is launching its first-ever golf tournament– the Golfer’s Guide National Team Classic – slated to take place next February in Las Vegas.

The tournament will feature two-man amateur teams from around North America competing over three days on several of the finest golf courses in the Las Vegas area. The Rio All Suites hotel has signed on to be the host casino for the National Team Classic, serving as home base for all the players during the Feb. 20-23, 2011 event.

Competing golfers will be challenged by Siena, Arroyo and Rio Secco golf courses and will compete in a different team format each day. Contestants will also have the opportunity to compete away from the golf course, in a $10,000 Texas Hold em poker tournament on Monday, Feb. 21.

Golfer’s Guide Marketing Solutions is the publisher of Golfer’s Guide Magazine, North America’s largest network of regional golf publications covering 22 markets and reaching more than 10 million golfers annually. The company also publishes four national web sites, including www.golfersguide.com, the leading golf lifestyle web site in industry, and www.teetimesavings.com, an e-commerce site geared toward marketing affordable rounds of golf at more than 350 courses across the Midwest, Carolinas and Florida.

The National Team Classic marks Golfer’s Guide’s first foray into staging amateur golf tournaments but it won’t be doing so alone. The company has partnered with Southern Dunes Golf and Travel, organizers of the PGA Superstores National Father and Son Team Classic, to handle event coordination and operations. The Father and Son Event takes place each July in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is the largest such amateur tournament in the world.

“We’ve always wanted to create an event that our loyal Golfer’s Guide readers could be a part of, and through this new relationship with Southern Dunes we have been able to do just that,” said James McMahon, director of operations for Golfer’s Guide Marketing Solutions.  “We look forward to putting on an exciting golf tournament that will be enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.”

Arroyo Golf Club is one of the three host courses for the GG National Team Classic

During each day of the tournament, golfers will play a different golf course with formats shifting from alternate shot to best ball of two to captain’s choice. Golfers will play to 70 percent of their handicap.

Each of the three host courses is among the most acclaimed and sought-after Las Vegas courses. Located a mere 10 minutes from the strip, the Tuscan-themed Siena Golf Club is among the most spectacular courses in the Nevada Desert and is a favorite of visitors and locals alike. Surrounded by the towering spring mountains, Siena boasts gently rolling fairways and artful bunkering – all offered with a dazzling view of the famous Vegas skyline.

Nestled among the beautiful Red Rock Canyon in the master-planned community of Summerlin, the Arroyo Golf Club is among the most respected and sought after courses in the Las Vegas area. A challenge for players of all skill levels, Arroyo ribbons through Red Rock Canyon and affords golfers an awesome view of the Vegas skyline from the seventh hole.

Designed and built by the talented Rees Jones, Rio Secco Golf Club sits at the base of the beautiful Black Mountains, about 14 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. Ranked among the top 100 Resort Courses by Golfweek magazine in 2007, Rio Secco will delight golfers with six holes that roll though a large canyon, six that sits on a high plateau overlooking the city and six more in a broad desert wash.  It’s like playing three different golf courses in one memorable round.

All pre- and post-golf events will be hosted by the Rio All Suites Hotel; a Harrahs property located a block from the heart of the strip. In addition to a pair of receptions, the Rio will host the event’s freeroll Texas Hold em poker tournament that will feature a $10,000 jackpot.

Given its attractiveness to golfers and its wide array of entertainment possibilities, Las Vegas was the natural choice for Golfer’s Guide’s inaugural golf event. The ability to give back to the golf and entertainment community during difficult times is also an important aspect of the event.

“The economic struggles of the past year-plus have hit many areas very hard and Las Vegas is certainly one of them,” McMahon said. “With our Vegas Golfer’s Guide and our regional Web sites we have had a presence in this market for more than a dozen years, so we relish the opportunity to give back to the entertainment industry of Las Vegas.”
