So you’ve tried stalking her at remote LPGA Tour events or incessantly messaging her on her MySpace page (not even really sure she has one) but your efforts to get Natalie Gulbis’ attention have been to no avail. Take solace gents, and maybe ladies too, here is your chance to get up close and personal with professional golf’s favorite cover girl. RSM McLadrey, the official accounting, tax and business consulting firm of the PGA of America is sponsoring an essay contest titled, “Who’s Behind Your Success?” The Grand Prize Winner gets to spend a day with Natalie Gulbis in her hometown of Las Vegas. The day will consist of a morning workout followed by nine holes of golf and finish with dinner. The contest, which is open to anyone over the age of 18, invites participants to submit essays of 200 words or less, highlighting the most influential and/or inspirational individual behind the success in their life. Essays can be submitted through Aug. 4, 2008, at the contest’s Web site. You can enter the site by clicking here . One grand prize winner will be announced Oct. 21 during the National Championship rounds of the PGA McGladrey Team Championship, the first nationwide grassroots best-ball amateur championship managed by the PGA of America. Five finalists will receive the following: TaylorMade Driver, adidas golf shoes, a Canon Six PowerShot and a SkyCaddie SG-5. Immediately upon hearing this announcement, I got to work on my essay. I mean, did you see Miss Gulbis in that little red number she was sporting on Day 1 of the U.S. Women’s Open at Interlachen. So I’ve finished it, and I thought I would share my work with you.
Brandon’s entry into
the Natalie Gulbis essay contest Success is a relative term. While I haven’t had to endure an acute illness, haven’t made the ultimate sacrifice by defending our country overseas and haven’t ever really had to work all that hard, I wouldn’t characterize my life as a success. But the limited success I have had I can attribute to myself. That’s right, I’m the most inspirational figure in my own life. For starters, I’m a child of a recent divorce. To compound that trauma, my father forced me to shoot his profile picture for an online dating Web site with my iPhone despite my strong objections to internet dating. I’d like to be able to fly to Vegas but I can’t afford it. I’ve spent all of my money driving to Mississippi to visit a young lady whom I’m not dating. In fact, she is dating another guy and he graduated from N.C. State and I went to Chapel Hill. Thirdly, I write for a golf magazine but I’m horrible at golf. I turn 25 two days after the contest ends. Meeting Natalie could really improve my struggling game and it would be a perfect birthday present. I would call it a success.
