Donald TrumpWith his purchase of a 36-hole private golf club in the nation's capital, Donald Trump has designs on taking the Chesapeake Bay area golf scene by storm and luring high-profile events and powerful Washington, D.C. players, including President Barack Obama, to his newest golf course holding.

A number of news outlets, including the Washington Post, have confirmed that Trump has acquired The Lowes Island Golf Club, which will now be known as Trump National Golf Club, Washington, D.C.

"When this is finished there will be nothing in Virginia, Maryland or D.C. even close to topping this," Trump stated in his usual hubristic style. "Take Congressional - Congressional doesn't have a river. You need a river, and we have the river and we have the Potomac, which is the mighty Potomac, so there will be nothing that comes close to this, as you guys can see."

Trump National has two 18-hole course; the original Island Course by Tom Fazio and the newer River Course, designed by Arthur Hills.

The Post is reporting that Trump will bring in Fazio to rework both golf courses, aiming to maximize the natural beauty of the club, which is situated along the banks of the Potomac River in Sterling. He's also ordered 150 luxury golf carts for the club.

Leesburg Today reported that a number of other improvements to the facility are planned.

"Among the many changes proposed by Trump is painting the exterior of the clubhouse white, expanding the clubhouse to include a restaurant and ballroom, doubling the current tennis courts to 12, with perhaps four or five indoor courts, expanding the pool area and widening the driving range."

Trump told the Post that he expects it will take up to two years to have the course up to his lofty standards.

"This place, when it's finished, will be the finest club anywhere in the country," Trump said. "There will be nothing like it. I already own the best ones, so I know."

Trump NationalAccording to reports, Trump's son Eric who attended Georgetown, alerted the Donald to the property, which was rumored to have a price tag of $18.

And as for inviting President Obama to visit the course, Trump said, "I look forward to teeing up with President Obama. "He's a great-looking basketball player. I saw his golf swing, and it's got tremendous potential."

Trump also owns golf clubs in New York, Florida and California.
