Snap Shot: Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort

There hasn't been this much excitement surrounding a golf course opening in the Midwest since Whistling Straits burst onto the scene more than a decade ago.

Pete Dye's newest creation is set upon a breathtaking track of land in Southern Indiana and looks destined to be mentioned with some of the best modern-day championship courses.

This course is really, really long. Dye himself said he could've stretched it all the way to 9,000 yards. From the very back tees, the course can accommodate up to 8,100 yards. The Pete Dye Course at Course at French Lick will host the 2010 PGA Professional National Championship, and I wouldn't be surprised if a major championship, at least a major USGA amateur event, shortly followed.

Enjoy these shots of the new course, which opens April 24, courtesy of French Lick Resort.

It is nice to see some elevation changes. I like the new course and the fact there looks to be some views. It is hard to play a course in Indiana and get such spectatcular views as this course. From the pictures, this course has a traditional and elegant feel to it.
