We're closing in on what promises to be one of the more contentious midterm election periods in recent history, and former President George W. Bush remains out of sight but not out of mind.

Bush will make a rare public appearance Friday morning when he joins Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, PGA of America President Jim Remy and veteran Heath Calhoun for a ceremonial tee off in Waco, Texas.

W is the honorary chairman of this year's Patriot Golf Day weekend. The foundation, which raises money to fund scholarships for the families of military members killed or disabled in the line of duty, has drummed up more than $5.3 million since it was started in 2007.

Don't expect Bush to make any major political statements. According to the Wall Street Journal, he's kept quiet and out of public view despite giving 60 for profit speeches at home and abroad since he left office.

You'll have to wait for Bush's publicity tour to promote his memoir "Decision Points" to hear the 43rd President's take on current political hot buttons.

Now watch this drive.
