Woods' niece picks Wake Forest

The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that Cheyenne Woods, a two-time Arizona state high school champion and one of the best high school golfers in the country, is headed to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Cheyenne's uncle is the World's No. 1 player, Tiger Woods, and her first golf mentor was her grandfather, the late Earl Woods.

As of July 2, Cheyenne was ranked No. 52 in the Golfweek/Titleist junior performance index.

She won back-to-back Arizona 5-A High School titles while leading Phoenix Xavier High School to four straight championships.

"When I first started playing, my relationship (with Tiger) was no big deal because everyone around home knew about it," she told the paper. "But when I started going to national tournaments, I was answering a lot of questions."

She'll have to get used to answering more questions during her collegiate career but the relatively small-size of Wake Forest for a Division I school should keep her out of the full media spotlight. And it goes without saying that golf isn't exactly the most prominent college sport on Tobacco Road.

Cheyenne might have to settle for being the second-most famous name to player college golf for the Demon Deacons. The legendary Arnold Palmer briefly attended Wake Forest on a golf scholarship.
