 Golf in the state of Michigan will once again be in the national spotlight over the next few months as Big Break X: Michigan, will be featured on the Golf Channel. The Golf Channel's most popular series celebrates its 10th anniversary by returning to the destination where it all began, Northern Michigan, known as "America's Summer Golf Capital."
"We are very excited about the opportunity to host Golf Channel's premier television event "Big Break X" in the state of Michigan," said George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, a business unit of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. "It has been a very exciting year for Michigan golf with the PGA Championship in August and now the Big Break coming back for the 10th anniversary. Having our state host these nationally staged golf events is a tribute to the great golf destination we are," continued Zimmermann.
The exciting series, featuring eight two-person teams, comprised of a male and female, will take place at one of Michigan's top golf resort destinations - Boyne Highlands. Top courses such as the Arthur Hills course, The Heather, and the Donald Ross Memorial played host to some of the toughest event competitions to date. Although the results and competitions of the show could not be revealed, viewers can expect to see dramatic competition along the lines of the previous shows, including the glass break - smashing a golf ball through a small plate of glass from about 20 yards.
The winning team of Big Break X: Michigan has the opportunity to win their lifelong dream of playing professional golf. The female competitor will earn an exemption to play in the 2009 Bell Micro LPGA Classic while the male competitor will compete in the 2009 Children's Miracle Network Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort. In addition the winning team will receive many other prizes from sponsorship partners.
The Big Break, which was launched at Michigan's Treetops Resort , was held this year at Boyne Highlands Resort, a member of the Boyne Resorts family of resorts and attractions, located in the community of Harbor Springs. The famed resort lures golfers with 72 holes of championship golf lead by the classic Heather golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and rivaled by the modern classic Arthur Hills, as well as The Moor, and Donald Ross Memorial.
