The resort provides guests with luxury accommodations, limitless options for recreation and relaxation and an array of restaurants, capped off by 72 holes of championship golf; all in perfect harmony with nature. Named "Silver Medal Golf Resort" by Golf Magazine, Amelia Island Plantation is home to Amelia Links, Long Point and Amelia River (formerly Royal Amelia) . Long Point, designed by Tom Fazio, is the primary course of Amelia Island Club members, and is the most acclaimed of the courses at the resort. This par 72 course with a back yardage of 6,775 yards has been hailed as one of the "Top Fifty Courses in Florida" by Golfweek magazine and one of the "Best Places to Play" by Golf Digest. It has hosted the Florida Women's Amateur, Men's U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifiers in addition to numerous Amelia Island Club events and championships. Amelia Links, designed by Pete Dye and Bobby Weed, is a 36-hole configuration including two signature courses, Oak Marsh and Ocean Links.
Amelia Links, Long Point and Amelia River golf pro shops each offer private instruction and equipment rentals. Customized gifts and an extensive collection of golf accessories and sports-wear are available at the Amelia Links and Long Point pro shops. The resort itself, which has been meticulously preserved since 1971, exemplifies environmental sensitivity and the luxury of a leisure lifestyle. The master developers of this coastal retreat included Charles Fraser and the Sea Pines Company of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Ian McHarg of the firm Wallace, McHarg, Roberts and Todd. Together they set upon a mission to find the optimum fit between man's habitat and the existing natural environment. The result was a master plan to protect tidal marshes, conserve oceanfront dunes, grassland and savannahs. In order to protect the environmental integrity of the land, agreements were put into place that the resort community and property owners would have to adhere to in order to build and live within this magnificent setting. Each building courtyard, terrace or boardwalk is placed with the natural environment in mind, making sure that each entity on the resort "embraces its site and becomes one with it" is still the mission and the reason Amelia Island Plantation has remained the pristine location that it is.
