The General, as the resort course at Barnsley Gardens is known, was recently awarded "Course of the Year" by the Georgia Golf Course Owners Association. Other accolades garnered by the course include a 4.5 star rating by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play", a No. 5 ranking by Golfweek in the state of Georgia in 2007, top 20 in Georgia by Golf Digest and an "extraordinary" rating by Zagat Survey of America's top golf courses. Located in the foothills of the striking Blue Ridge Mountains, the par-72, 7,350-yard Jim Fazio-designed course features a combination of championship-caliber golf and spectacular panoramic views. Fazio's resume as a course architect includes the design of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and the renovation of Trump National Golf Club in Westchester, N.Y. The award is based on the following criteria: quality of the course, quality of management, significant contribution to the game of golf, significant contribution to its community and membership in the GGCOA.
Located 60 miles north of the Atlanta metro area in Adairsville, Ga., Barnsley Gardens is one of the most pristine golf courses in the Southeast. Fazio designed the course to blend into the natural surroundings, personally selecting the 378 acres that the course occupies. The course is set apart from the competition by dramatic tee shots, significant elevation changes and breathtaking views.
