ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. - Legendary golf course designer Tom Fazio's first-ever solo course design turns 30 years old this year, and golf enthusiasts are invited to join the celebration.
In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, Wild Dunes Resort is giving golfers a chance to play the signature, oceanfront Links Course and help the organization give back to its home community.
The Resort is offering an exclusive 1980s-inspired golf package, priced at $225 per person per night, including a round of golf on The Links Course or Harbor Course, resort accommodations, a flashback 80s music CD and a signature 1980s-style anniversary golf hat.
The offer is available for stays from Sept. 7 through Dec. 29. To make reservations, call 877.221.0901.
"Our anniversary package brings back the nostalgia of 1980, when the Links Course opened and provided a new experience for golfers in South Carolina," said Wild Dunes Managing Director Frank Fredericks. "We designed the offer to celebrate this special anniversary with golfers who have been playing the Links for the past 30 years and introduce newcomers to the course who will hopefully play for years to come."
As part of the anniversary celebration Wild Dunes will invite the first group to tee off on the Links Course each day during September to help the resort choose from among a number of pre-determined local charities to decide that day's recipient of a Wild Dunes golf gift certificate.
The selected charity will be notified and allowed to use the certificate, good for a foursome on one of the property's two acclaimed courses, as it sees fit. For example, charities may choose to auction off their gift to raise money, award the certificate to top volunteers or provide the free foursome to underprivileged audiences they serve.
"All of us at Wild Dunes are proud to call this area home, and we are pleased to celebrate the Links Course's milestone 30th anniversary by giving something back to organizations that enrich the lives of others here," said Fredericks. "Each day for the 30 days of September, golfers enjoying a round can help us decide how they'd like us to do that."
The Links Course is a classic golf challenge featuring rolling fairways, rustling palms, massive dunes and oceanside finishing holes. Practice
facilities include a driving range, chipping area and putting green.
Wild Dunes also offers acclaimed golf instruction for those looking to fine tune their swing and specialty spa services tailored for relaxation after a round. The resort's course represents Fazio's first solo project and continues to be ranked among the top courses in the United States.
"Thirty years after the first group hit tee shots on the Links Course, we continue to be a top choice for players and we're excited to offer this new package," said Jeff Minton, Wild Dunes director of golf. "We're especially proud to celebrate the course's 30th anniversary since players are giving the renovated 18th hole, refurbished in 2009 to its original par-5 layout along the Atlantic, rave reviews."
