The concentration of golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area
is stunning. Some of the best courses in America litter the area, spanning 60
miles of shoreline in two states. Just off the beaten path is subtly more relaxed stretch, less crowded and noticeably quiet for those who want to enjoy their downtime and take part in the sacred rite of passage in these parts - a round of golf. The Waccamaw Golf Trail is a little slice of heaven, or a left to right fade if you prefer. Set amid the historic splendor and charm of one of America's oldest resort destinations, The Waccamaw Golf Trail offers beautiful beaches, award-winning restaurants and interesting shops. The trail is a cooperative effort comprised of 12 south Grand Strand golf courses, and accommodations providers, Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort and Pawleys Plantation. This non-profit organization was created to maximize the information available to the millions of yearly visitors to the area concerning golf and vacation packages.
The trail encompasses a twenty-mile stretch of coastline
between historic Georgetown and Myrtle Beach with the Atlantic Ocean to the
east and the scenic Waccamaw River to the west. The Grand Strand's newest Pearl is one of the original members of the Waccamaw Golf Trail. Having opened for play Feb. 1, 2008, the Founders Club at Pawleys Island is the first course on the south stand to open since the International Club debuted in 2000. One of five courses owned and operated by The Classic Golf Group, The Founders Club sits upon the site of the former Sea Gull Golf Club, which opened in 1965 as one of the first golf courses in Pawleys Island. The other courses the make up the Waccamaw Trail are the Blackmoor, the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club , Heritage Club , Litchfield Country Club , Pawleys Plantation , River Club , TPC of Myrtle Beach , Tradition Club , True Blue Plantation , Wachesaw Plantation East and Willbrook Plantation . The Waccamaw Trail gives golfers an opportunity to discover some of America's most award-winning layouts, including three of "America's Top 100 Public Courses," one of Golf for Women magazine's "Top 25 in America," six 4.5-star courses and one of only three 5-star courses in the Southeastern United States.
