Little Change in 2010 PGA Tour Calendar Print E-mail

2010 PGA Tour ScheduleThe 2010 PGA Tour schedule will again feature 37 regular season events to be followed by four PGA Tour playoff events for the FedEx Cup.

The season-long FedEx Cup competition will open the week of Jan. 4-10 with the SBS Championship at Kapalua, Hawaii, and will conclude the week of Sept. 20-26 at The Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola in Atlanta.

LPGA State Farm Classic Extends Contract with Title Sponsor Print E-mail

LPGA State Farm ClassicThe LPGA State Farm Classic has renewed its contract with title sponsor, State Farm through 2011, Executive Director Kate Peters announced. The tournament will celebrate a milestone 35th anniversary in 2010, making it one of the longest running tournaments on the Tour. The 72-hole LPGA State Farm Classic will be held June 10-13 at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield.

"State Farm has been a generous sponsor and strong partner of this tournament for 17 years, helping us make the LPGA State Farm Classic more successful each year," Peters said. "We are grateful for their continued support and look forward to celebrating 35 years in 2010."

Heritage Begins Search for New Title Sponsor Print E-mail

2009 Verizon Heritage Champion Brian GayThe PGA Tour and Heritage Classic Foundation, host organization for the Verizon Heritage, have jointly announced that Verizon will not renew as the tournament’s title sponsor after the current contract expires following the 2010 event, and that they will immediately begin the search for a new sponsor.

"The Heritage is a well-run, terrific event that includes the wonderful charitable work of its Foundation," said Becky Carr, senior vice president of marketing for Verizon Business.  "Although we've enjoyed an outstanding partnership with the Heritage, we decided that given the global scope of our business, it made sense to restructure our future involvement with the PGA Tour to focus on select PGA Tour events that will provide Verizon Business with more opportunities for business development throughout the year.

Greenbrier Classic added to PGA Tour Schedule Print E-mail

Old White CourseThe PGA Tour and The Greenbrier recently announced that they have entered a six-year agreement, through 2015, whereby the historic West Virginia resort will sponsor and host The Greenbrier Classic as part of the FedExCup, beginning the week of July 26-August 1, 2010.

The new tournament will be held on The Old White Course, The Greenbrier’s original of four golf courses, dating back to 1914. The Greenbrier will form a separate non-profit charitable organization to serve as the tournament operator.

Omaha Country Club To Host 2013 U.S. Senior Open Print E-mail

Omaha Country Club Don Lee of the Omaha World Herald called Omaha Country Club, "The Midland's most scenic, dignified and challenging course." The century-old course designed throughout 190 acres of forested countryside and original Omaha farmlands will finally take its turn in the national spotlight five years from now when it hosts the 2013 U.S. Senior Open. The dates of the championship will be Aug. 1 - 4.

It will be the first United States Golf Association championship to be conducted at Omaha Country Club (www.omahacc.org). The USGA has previously conducted two national championships in Nebraska: the 1941 U.S. Amateur (won by Marvin H. Ward) at Omaha Field Club and the 1996 U.S. Women's Amateur (won by Kelli Kuehne) at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln.

LPGA to own and operate LPGA Championship beginning in 2010 Print E-mail

LPGA TourHAVRE DE GRACE, Md., - Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens and Herb Lotman, co-founder of McDonald's sponsorship of the McDonald's LPGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, today jointly announced an ownership change in one of the LPGA's longest-running and highest-profile tournaments. Effective with the 2010 championship, the LPGA will own and operate the event, marking the first time in its history the LPGA will own its players' championship.

"This truly is a momentous day for the LPGA, as it marks the first time in our history that we will own one of our Majors," said Bivens during a press conference at the 2008 McDonald's LPGA Championship. "As we have done with the LPGA-owned and operated ADT Championship and The Solheim Cup when in the United States, we are committed to ensuring the LPGA Championship is a best-in-class tournament, worthy of showcasing the best golfers in the world.
