Muirfield to Host the 2013 Open Championship Print E-mail

The Open ChampionshipThe R&A has named Muirfield as the venue for the 2013 Open Championship.

Muirfield last hosted The Open Championship in 2002, when South Africa's Ernie Els won his third Major after the first and only four-man, four-hole playoff in Open Championship history. This will be the sixteenth time that The Open has been staged at the club, which held its first Championship in 1892.

Bob Hope Classic to Continue Print E-mail

PGA Tour Bob Hope ClassicAs a result of the auto industry's role in the economic collapse, Chrysler chose to dramatically reduce its presence at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, known for its celebrity Pro-Am, in spite of the company's standing as the event's title sponsor, completely removing its name from promotional materials and television coverage, while making no mention of itself with signage at the tournament.

In light of the company's bankruptcy filing over the weekend, the PGA Tour and Desert Classic Charities, Inc., released a joint statement reassuring the tournament's supporters that the event would remain a fixture on the PGA Tour's schedule in 2010 and beyond with or without Chrysler's financial backing.

2007 Champion Tiger Woods Commits to Quail Hollow Championship Print E-mail

Quail Hollow ChampionshipTiger Woods, winner of the 2007 Quail Hollow Championship and the No. 1 ranked player on the Official World Golf Ranking, committed today to play in next week's Quail Hollow Championship.

Woods will be making his fourth appearance in the Quail Hollow Championship and will make his first start since winning in 2007. He had to miss the 2008 edition due to knee surgery. Besides his victory in 2007, Woods finished T3 in 2004 and T11 in 2005.

LPGA Corning ClassicA tournament that had stood as a model of stability and comfort for the LPGA Tour and its players for the better part of three decades will be contested for the final time next month.

Monday afternoon Tournament President Jack Benjamin and the Corning Classic's Board of Directors announced that it had become "economically unfeasible" to sustain the tournament beyond 2009.

Greg Norman Committs to Play in 70th Senior PGA Championship Print E-mail

70th Senior PGA ChampionshipTwo-time British Open Champion Greg Norman heads 25 major champions who have committed to compete in the 70th Senior PGA Championship, which makes its first appearance, May 18-24, at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio.

Overall, the 25 major champions in the 156-player field have combined to win 48 majors between 1963 and 1998. The field at Canterbury Golf Club also features players representing 30 states and 14 countries, and includes 13 Ryder Cup Captains along with 10 World Golf Hall of Fame members.

Vancouver Golf Course to Host 2011 RBC Canadian Open Print E-mail

RBC Canadian OpenThe PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open is headed back to Western Canada in 2011.

Thursday April 16, officials at the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and RBC confirmed that the historic Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, which last hosted the event in 2005, will host the tournanament again in two years time.

Monday the legendary Gary Player announced that his 52nd Masters would be his last. Player became only the third man to capture golf's grand slam in 1965. When he won the Masters in 1961, he became the first international player to win the event. In all, Player won nine professional PGA Tour majors and nine Champions Tour majors, including three Masters titles.
