The R&A has named Muirfield as the venue for the 2013 Open Championship.

Muirfield last hosted The Open Championship in 2002, when South Africa's Ernie Els won his third Major after the first and only four-man, four-hole playoff in Open Championship history. This will be the sixteenth time that The Open has been staged at the club, which held its first Championship in 1892.

As a result of the auto industry's role in the economic collapse, Chrysler chose to dramatically reduce its presence at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, known for its celebrity Pro-Am, in spite of the company's standing as the event's title sponsor, completely removing its name from promotional materials and television coverage, while making no mention of itself with signage at the tournament.

In light of the company's bankruptcy filing over the weekend, the PGA Tour and Desert Classic Charities, Inc., released a joint statement reassuring the tournament's supporters that the event would remain a fixture on the PGA Tour's schedule in 2010 and beyond with or without Chrysler's financial backing.

A tournament that had stood as a model of stability and comfort for the LPGA Tour and its players for the better part of three decades will be contested for the final time next month.

Monday afternoon Tournament President Jack Benjamin and the Corning Classic's Board of Directors announced that it had become "economically unfeasible" to sustain the tournament beyond 2009.
