Perry Will Skip Buick Open to be with Ailing Mother

Kenny PerryGRAND BLANC - Buick Open officials have confirmed that two-time champion Kenny Perry will not defend his title at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club next week due to a family health matter. Perry has withdrawn from the tournament in order to remain near his mother, Mildred Perry, who is battling Multiple Myeloma.

“Obviously I regret not being able to defend my title at the Buick,” said Perry. “It’s a great tournament, and I love the course, but I need to be with my family right now. We have some tough decisions to make over the next few weeks.”

Perry considered withdrawing from last week’s Open Championship at Turnberry because of his mother’s health, but ultimately chose to compete after consulting with his family and his mother’s physicians. Circumstances have changed for the Perry family since that meeting.

“The entire Buick family is deeply saddened to hear the news about Kenny Perry’s mother,” said Larry Peck, national promotions manager for Buick-GMC. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her, Kenny and his wife Sandy, their children and the entire Perry family.”
