Ericka Schneider and Brandon LiuGolfweek magazine recently kicked off its new Golfweek's Junior Series in Tampa, Fla., with Brandon Liu, 16, and Ericka Schneider, 17, both from Bradenton, Fla., taking the top spots at the event.

The tournament was the first of four qualifiers in the series, which offers a new generation of rising talent from across the country the chance to compete against their peers in Golfweek-ranked events.

"Golfweek's Junior Series not only shines a spotlight on golf's up-and-coming stars, but also presents young golfers, regardless of handicap or skill level, with a unique opportunity to gain valuable tournament experience and excellent exposure on the junior circuits," said Armand Cimaroli, Golfweek's director of events. "In addition to being ranked, each event will be covered by Golfweek's respected writers, which really helps maximize the experience for these talented players."

Open to golfers ages 18 and under, Golfweek's Junior Series offers a total of five competitive junior events, including four qualifiers and the final Golfweek's Junior Invitational. Upcoming events for Golfweek's Junior Series are as follows:

Sept. 4-6 Qualifier No. 2 - Treetops Resort (Gaylord, Mich.)
Sept. 26-27  Qualifier No. 3 - Longbow Golf Club (Mesa, Ariz.)
Oct. 24-25 Qualifier No. 4 - Pine Needles and Mid Pines GC (Southern Pines, N.C.)
Nov. 7-8 Golfweek's Junior Invitational - Reunion Resort (Orlando, Fla.)

The top five boys and five girls (including ties) from each 36-hole qualifier will be given exemption into Golfweek's Junior Invitational, while the top boys and girls (based on the Golfweek/Titleist rankings) will be invited to complete the field.

Registration fee for each Golfweek's Junior Series event includes two tournament rounds of golf (with green fees and range balls), a players meeting and trophies for first-place winners in each division.

Space for this dynamic new series is limited to 84 players per event and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
