N.C. State's Matt HillNorth Carolina State sophomore Matt Hill will be crowned the NCAA Men's Division I individual golf champion once the weather-delayed third round is completed Friday, May 29 and his victory becomes official.

"This whole season has just been amazing, especially the last three months," Hill, who becomes only the second Canadian to win the NCAA golf title, told Golfweek. "This is the icing on the cake. I never imagined anything like this when the season started. It's just been incredible."

Hill's 6-under (207) over three rounds at Toldeo's Inverness Club was good enough to edge Clemson's Kyle Stanley (4-under), the nation's top-ranked golfer and 2009 Hogan Award winner, and Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler (3-under), the world's top-ranked amateur according to the Golfwee/amateurgolf.com player rankings and 2008 Hogan Award winner.

"You have to tip your hat to Matt," Stanley told the Globe and Mail. "I played with him all three days and he played some incredible golf. Obviously, he's used to winning."

Hill has certaintly grown accustomed to winning this postseason. He was co-medalist at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, won the Central Regional and of course, this triumph at the NCAA Finals. The only other golfer to accomplish that feat - Tiger Woods, who pulled it off in 1996 while at Stanford University.

Even though he's a member of Wolfpack Nation, Hill deserves to be celebrated for his win. He took down two of the best amateur golfers in the world on a world-class layout.
