David Chung of Fayetteville, N.C., survived 36 holes and seven hours of high pressure match play golf to win the 108th Western Amateur at historic Skokie Country Club.
The 5-foot 9-inch, 160-pound junior from Stanford defeated UCLA junior and PAC-10 rival Gregor Main, 2 and 1, in the compelling final match played before hundreds of spectators, who viewed the action close-up under sunny skies and a warm afternoon breeze.

Caroline Hedwall, a sophomore at Oklahoma State University and this year’s NCAA individual champion, has been chosen as the nation’s top female golfer. The honor was based on the results of national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 34th year.
The Honda Sports Award is given annually to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, along with automatic eligibility to become a “Top Three” finalist for the Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Yueer Cindy Feng of Orlando, Fla., became the first player to successfully defend her title at the Thunderbird International Junior by defeating Laetitia Beck of Caesarea, Israel, in a four-hole sudden-death playoff Monday afternoon. Anthony Paolucci of Del Mar, Calif., posted a 12-under-par total and claimed a three-shot victory for his first AJGA title.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the 11th annual Thunderbird International Junior was a 54-hole stroke play event played at Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course. The 78-player field featured 48 boys and 30 girls, ages 12-18, from 18 states and 15 countries. The Boys Division played the par-72 layout at 7,112 yards while the Girls Division played at 6,275 yards.

The 64th Western Intercollegiate Golf Tournament is set for Sat. April 17 and Sun. April 18 at the nationally-recognized Pasatiempo Golf Club. Hosted by San Jose State University Spartans Men's Golf, 12 respected collegiate teams are set to compete in a 54-hole event, on the famed MacKenzie-designed course in Santa Cruz, Calif. (located between San Jose, Calif. and the Monterey Peninsula).
On Fri. April 16, collegiate players will enjoy a practice round with other amateur golfers in the annual "WI" College-Am. Business and community leaders, alumni and other loyal supporters of college golf are looking forward to experiencing the historic Pasatiempo tract alongside standout collegiate players from foremost colleges and universities.
