Marquette's Mike Van SickleThe Golf Coaches Association of America has awarded the 2009 Byron Nelson Award presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon to Marquette's Mike Van Sickle.
 
Candidates for the Nelson Award must be a graduating senior and the selection committee considers equally a nominee’s entire collegiate academic and golf career and his character and integrity while in college. Particular consideration will be given to a nominee’s good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.

Team Europe Wins Palmer Cup Print E-mail

2009 Palmer CupCHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – Europe stymied a late American rally to claim a 13-11 win at the 2009 Palmer Cup presented by Fisher Capital Partners at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo. The victory was the Euros second in a row and second on American soil. The win evened the all-time series, 6-6-1.

After splitting the morning’s foursomes matches - which left Europe needing only 2.5 points to retain the Palmer Cup, Europe roared out to big leads in each of the first three singles matches. Team USA briefly cut into Europe’s lead when Mike Van Sickle when he posted the largest singles victory in Palmer Cup history with an 8 and 7 win. The Euros quickly responded with a 5 and 4 victory by Stephan Gross and Jorge Campillo downing Bud Cauley, 2 and 1.

N.C. State's Matt Hill NCAA Medalist Print E-mail

N.C. State's Matt HillNorth Carolina State sophomore Matt Hill will be crowned the NCAA Men's Division I individual golf champion once the weather-delayed third round is completed Friday, May 29 and his victory becomes official.

"This whole season has just been amazing, especially the last three months," Hill, who becomes only the second Canadian to win the NCAA golf title, told Golfweek. "This is the icing on the cake. I never imagined anything like this when the season started. It's just been incredible."

Cowboys Open Five-Shot Advantage at NCAA Golf Championships Print E-mail

Oklahoma State's Rickie FowlerTop-seeded Oklahoma State leads the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship after a stormy and soggy round two Wednesday at Inverness Club in Toledo that was only completed by half of the 30 teams in the field.

The second round will resume beginning at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday with the third round tentatively scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.

Ben Hogan Award goes to Clemson's Kyle Stanley Print E-mail

Clemson's Kyle StanleyClemson junior Kyle Stanley is headed to Toledo, Ohio, site of next week's NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Inverness Club, where he'll be playing his final event as an amateur.

Prior to his journey to the Buckeye State, Stanley made a brief stop at Colonial Golf Club in Dallas, where he was presented with the 2009 Ben Hogan Award, an honor annually given to the nation's top collegiate golfer.
