Much to the delight of golfers, Palmetto Dunes features three superb courses, each of which is rated four stars or higher by Fodor’s Golf Digest Places to Play. The Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, George Fazio Course and Arthur Hills Course are each distinctively different and yet uniquely challenging.

The Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, completely renovated in 2002 at a cost of $3 million, was rated by readers of Golfweek Magazine among the best courses in the Southeast. Its signature hole, the par-five 10th, offers a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s one of only two oceanfront holes on Hilton Head Island.

The extensive renovation, led by longtime Jones protégé Roger Rulewich, involved reshaping and restructuring tees, greens and bunkers. Workers also elevated and reshaped the fairways, and improved natural drainage with the addition of part of the unique, 11-mile lagoon system that weaves its way through and around all three golf courses.

Adding a set of junior or “short course” tees to the Jones Oceanfront course’s permanent layout enabled the resort to launch the Palmetto Dunes Junior Golf Academy. It also underscored the resort’s commitment to the next generation of golfers. When renovation work was completed, the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course was named the 2003 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the South Carolina Board of Directors of the National Golf Course Owners Association. The Jones Oceanfront course plays 6,122 yards from the middle white tees.

The Arthur Hills CourseThe George Fazio Course at Palmetto Dunes Resort is regarded by many golfers as Hilton Head Island’s most challenging championship course. Designed by fabled golf architect George Fazio, whose name it proudly bears, the Fazio course has been ranked among America’s top 100 courses.

The Fazio course demands a combination of long play and precise golf shots. From its 432-yard 1st hole to its 462-yard 18th hole, the Fazio is the only par-70 course on the island. It plays 6,239 yards from the middle white tees.

The Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes Resort takes full advantage of the natural beauty of this South Carolina Sea Island. It represents a careful blend of beauty and challenge. Strands of palmetto trees line the graceful fairway. Built on a series of rolling dunes, the Arthur Hills Course presents many opportunities for off-balance lies, while ocean breezes add to the challenge. Ten holes on the water further encourage precision play.

The historic Leamington Lighthouse is one of the course’s more prominent features. Fodor’s Golf Digest ranks the Arthur Hills Course at 4.5 stars. It plays 6,122 yards from the middle white tees.

The Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy
, a world leader in providing quality golf instruction and support, offers an array of programs for golfers ages 12 to adult. The programs are taught by an accomplished team of teaching pros, many of whom have the distinction of being former PGA Tour professionals.

In addition, Palmetto Dunes is the only Hilton Head Island resort to offer Segway X2 personal transporters and Coolwell air-conditioned golf carts, two innovative alternatives for getting around the green. Golfers enjoy the opportunity to navigate the course on a Segway and relish the air-conditioned comfort of the Coolwell golf cart, both of which add an additional dimension to the Palmetto Dunes golf experience. It’s no wonder that Golf for Women honored Palmetto Dunes as one of the “25 Best Family Golf Resorts in the Nation.”

Segway X2 Personal TransporterIn addition to outstanding golf, Palmetto Dunes is home to incredible tennis amenities.
