Heritage Junior Coming to Hampton Hall in Late July

BRASELTON, Ga. — For the 14th consecutive year, the American Junior Golf Association will bring the best junior golfers in the country to Bluffton, S.C., for the Heritage Junior Championship July 24-27. The 54-hole event will be played at the Hampton Hall Golf Club and feature a field of 84 boy and girl junior golfers ages 12-18.

The Heritage Classic Foundation, which conducts the PGA TOUR’s Verizon Heritage, is in its first year of a three-year sponsorship of this long-standing Hilton Head Island-area event.

In 2006, Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., and Dolores White of Lakeland, Fla., took home their respective division titles. Cole fired a final-round 3-under-par 69 to win by one stroke. The event was his third AJGA win and he has since won the 2007 Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. Cole earned Rolex Junior All-America honors in 2005 and 2006 and will be a member of the University of Alabama golf team in the fall. White won the tournament by one stroke with an even-par 72-72-72-216 tournament total. She went on to earn Rolex Junior All-America honors last season and is now a member of the golf team at Wake Forest University.

Applications for the event are being accepted on the AJGA’s Web site – ajga.org – until Tuesday, June 19. The field will be determined using the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry process and will be released June 22. Those who do not gain entry will have the opportunity to play their way in to the tournament Monday, July 23 during the Srixon Qualifier at Hampton Hall Club. To apply for the Srixon Qualifier, visit the AJGA Web site or call the AJGA’s Player Services Department at (877) 373-2542. Applications will be available to AJGA members on Friday, June 22 and for non-members Friday, June 29.

During the tournament week, some of the top juniors who will be participating in the Heritage Junior Championship will also take part in the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament Tuesday, July 24. The Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament will be a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Hampton Hall Club.

An excellent opportunity to entertain clients, reward employees or enjoy a tournament round with some friends, the Junior-Am allows locals to play a competitive round of golf with future stars of the game. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, Charles Howell III, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel and Grace Park are just a few of the thousands of talented players who participated in AJGA Junior-Ams when they were teenagers.

Supporting golf at the grass-roots level, Junior-Ams allow the AJGA to make contributions to local junior golf charities and programs in hosting communities. In 2007, the proceeds of the Heritage Junior Championship Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament will benefit the Hilton Head Junior Golf Association. To participate, contact AJGA Tournament Director P.J. Riordan at (770) 868-4200, Terry Finger at (843) 384-7340, or Steve Wilmot at (843) 671-2448. The Heritage Junior Championship is one of 80 events the AJGA will conduct in 2007. This year, AJGA tournaments will take place in more than 25 states.
