Fan favorites commit to RBC Heritage

Four PGA TOUR Pros with huge fan bases are playing in this year’s RBC Heritage. John Daly, Brian Gay, Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan have all committed to the 45th annual event, taking place April 15-21, 2013 over the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.

They will be joined by other PGA TOUR Professionals including defending champ Carl Pettersson, KJ Choi, Jim Furyk, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Brandt Snedeker and Boo Weekley. The entire group will be shooting for the top prize of $1,044,000 from a purse of $5,800,000.

Daly will be making his 10th appearance at Harbour Town. He has five PGA TOUR wins. His first was in 1991 at the PGA Championship and he earned international fame in 1995 when he won the British Open. Fans love both his colorful attitude and pants when he plays. He recently shot his lowest round in five years at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Gay was just recently named Avis Player of the Month by PGA TOUR fans beating out Tiger Woods. He earned his fourth win on TOUR at last month’s Humana Challenge. In 2009, he won at Harbour Town by a record 10 strokes, topping Davis Love III's seven-stroke win in 1998. His 20-under 264 total broke Loren Roberts' previous tournament scoring record of 19-under in 1996. His win became just the ninth in PGA TOUR history (dating back to 1970 when records began) to come with a double-digit winning margin. He made news again last year, when his caddy Kip Henley scared off an alligator on Harbour Town’s hole # 15 so he could make his third shot.

Johnson won the hearts of all RBC Heritage fans when he played in the 2007 tournament after winning The Masters the previous week. He has won 8 additional times on TOUR and has earned more than $26 million. Last year, he finished solo second, five strokes behind Carl Pettersson in his eighth start. His previous best finish at the RBC Heritage was sixth in 2007.

Mahan is one of four golfers in the PGA TOUR exclusive boy band "Golf Boys" (the other three golfers are Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane and Bubba Watson). The Golf Boys have a popular YouTube video for the song "Oh Oh Oh". Farmers Insurance donates $1,000 for every 100,000 views of the video. The charitable proceeds support both Farmers and Ben Crane charitable initiatives.   The California native and Texas resident has earned five TOUR victories including two wins in 2012.
