Rippy plays his way back to the top

Garry RippyAustin’s Garry Rippy pounded out a 36-hole total of 72-70—142, 2-under-par for the golf course at Victoria Country Club, to win the overall and Senior Division titles in action on the Bridgestone Golf STPGA Senior Series circuit.

The victory ended a long drought for Rippy, the 2006 Senior Series Player of the Year, who had not topped a Senior Series tournament since 2007. The overall win earned $300 and the Senior Division topper won another $510.

New Braunfels’ David Ogrin finished second to Rippy in both groups, carding a 76-68—144 total for $380 in winnings. Ron Schroeder of Montgomery and Troy Schleicher of Houston tied for third place in the Senior Division, Schroeder going 70-75—145 and Schleicher 72-73—145 for earnings of $305 each.

Houston’s David Lundstrom and David Faulkner of Humble tied for first place in the tournament’s Super Senior Division and won $365 each. The par posted identical scores of 73-72—145.

David Narveson of Simonton and Sherwood Stewart of The Woodlands played to a third-place Super Senior Division tie, posting scores of 74-74—148 and 72-76—148, respectively, and winning $295 each.

Amateur Bob Hullender of San Antonio won the Veteran Division of the tournament with a score of 75-73—148 and took home a merchandise certificate of $330. Don Lackey of Laguna Vista finished second in Hullender’s group, pocketing $220 for a tally of 75-81—156.

The golfers of the Senior Series will return to action Aug. 29-30 on the Tradition Course at Cypresswood Golf Club, and will close the summer with the group’s Tour Championship Sept. 12-13 on the Player Course at The Woodlands Country Club.
