Southern Texas PGA's first member tournament of 2011 is in the books

Contraband BayouOne tournament, two competitions, and the first tournament on the Southern Texas PGA’s schedule for 2011 is complete.

The STPGA’s members headed to Lake Charles, La., and the Contraband Bayou® Golf Club at L’auberge L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort to meet their counterparts from the Gulf States PGA to contest a “Pro-Pro-Am-Am” four person, two best balls contest and a “Pro-Pro” with a simultaneous best ball event for professionals only.

Southern Texas PGA Professionals Chip Craig of Eagle Point Golf Club in Mont Belvieu and Carl Cooper of Humble Oil Patch Golf Center teamed up with amateurs Jack Russ and Barry Sachs to win the four-person competition with a score of 126-126—252. The winners took home a team total of $1,600 ($400 each) in winnings, with the amateurs receiving merchandise certificates.

Tower ExpansionProfessionals Casey Wade of Magnolia’s High Meadow Ranch Golf Club and Dan White of The Woodforest Golf Club at Fish Creek in Magnolia played with Brad Griffin and Frank Kos, posting a score of 130-124—254 to take the runner-up spot and a team total of $1,200 in earnings.

Craig and Cooper brought another pair of guests, George Champagne and Todd Matherne, and their foursome took third place with a total of 126-131—257 and a team prize of $900.

Regulation play in the Pro-Pro contest ended in a four-way tie. Wade and White took the top spot with a 36-hole score of 70-64—134 and a win in the scorecard playoff that followed, earning $550 each.

The three teams tied for second place took home $683.33 each.  Mike Colling and Rene Rangel of Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland went 67-67—134 for their share of the tie. Chip Craig and Carl Cooper posted a 66-68—134 total, and Troy Schleicher of Houston’s Matt Swanson Golf School and Billy Sitton of International Pro-Ams, Inc., in Houston went 65-69—134.

John Gibson and Chuck Silva tallied a score of 67-68—135 and Danny Jones and Shane Pearce of Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club in Montgomery went 66-69—135 for a fifth-place tie and team winnings of $400 each.
