Texas Senior Open moves to VictoriaThe Texas Senior Open, slated for Oct. 12-14, is moving. After a three-year run at The Clubs of Kingwood’s Forest Course, the state championship will be held at Victoria Country Club this fall, the third location in the 15-year history of the event. The first 10 championships were held at South Padre Island Golf Club.

Greg Bruckner of Phoenix, Ariz., posted a 54-hole total of 13-under-par 69-71-63--203 to win the 2010 Texas Senior Open by a single stroke over Huntsville’s Robert Thompson; first place earned Bruckner a $5,000 check, while Thompson earned $3,000.

Jeff New of The Woodlands took Low Amateur honors with a score of 1-under-par 67-73-75—215, good for a merchandise certificate of $750.

This year’s tournament is being presented by Victoria Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and will be preceded on Oct. 11 by the Port Lavaca Auto Group Texas Senior Open Pro-Am.

Those eligible for the 2011 Texas Senior Open, presented by the Victoria Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, are all professionals and amateurs with a USGA Handicap Index of 8.4 or less who are aged 50 and above as of Oct. 12, 2011. Professionals will compete for cash prizes and amateurs for merchandise certificates.

An 18-hole“Last Chance” qualifier, to be held Oct. 9 at Victoria Country Club, is open to any eligible golfer who missed the entry deadline of Sept. 30, 2011, or who did not qualify for “priority” entry earlier this summer.  The “Last Chance” qualifier will produce a minimum of 12 qualifiers for the championship.

Entry fees into the 54-hole, stroke play championship event are $400 for professionals and $300 for amateurs.

The Port Lavaca Auto Group Texas Senior Pro-Am will feature teams of one professional and four amateurs competing in a two best balls (one gross and one net) format at Victoria Country Club.

Entry fees for the Pro-Am are $250 each; professionals must be entered in the championship to be eligible for the Pro-Am. The first six professionals entering a complete team in the pro-am will receive exemptions into the championship field.

The Pro-Am entry fee includes green fees, cart fees, food and beverages during the Pro-Am and a post-play Awards Party and Dinner. The entry deadline for the Pro-Am is Oct. 4, 2011 (the field will be limited to the first 25 paid teams.
