Pelican Hill is a ‘Must-Play’ on the Southern California Coast

18-hole Ocean Course SouthAnyone who has played Pelican Hill Golf Club recently has experienced the difference that two years can make – and knows why Tom Fazio’s two 18-hole golf courses are a “must-play” on the Southern California coast.

The club was closed for two years to build a new clubhouse and practice facility and to allow Fazio to work his magic unhindered. The master returned to “re-perfect” the duo he created on the Newport Coast in the early 1990s, which already were among the nation’s most highly rated public courses. 18-hole Ocean Course South and 18-hole Ocean Course North returned to the world of golf in late 2007 more beautiful, playable and enjoyable than ever.

They have everything:

  • A spectacular setting by the Pacific Ocean with numerous holes that play along cliffs at the water’s edge and inspiring panoramas from nearly every hole.
  • Dramatically enhanced playing conditions, turf quality and aesthetics.
  • A luxurious and stylish new clubhouse with a signature restaurant featuring al fresco dining.
  • State-of-the-art practice and instruction facilities.
  • Perfect weather allowing play virtually year-round.
  • Adjacent the famed shopping, dining and beaches of Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.
  • Even an extraordinary destination resort, which the golf club is part of, to experience. Recently opened The Resort at Pelican Hill features 128 extravagant villas, 204 plush bungalows, a luxurious spa, world-class restaurants and a one-of-a-kind ‘Coliseum Pool.’

18-hole Ocean Course NorthEnjoy the unequaled resort, but come foremost for the golf. Fazio fine-tuned the courses with such adjustments as re-turfing the fairways and tees with a hybrid bermuda to achieve a consistent look, texture and playing surface year-round; adding 25 new bunkers; recapturing stunning vistas at every turn by adopting lower-growing and native plants; sand-capping high-traffic areas to create better turf quality; expanding collars to create more choices on how to play shots; and adding 200 yards of length to both courses.

Golfers can choose from two dynamic courses with distinctly different styles: the more open North course plays more into the hills, while the South course hugs the Pacific and is more framed by trees. Both deliver a breathtaking golfing experience.

The luxurious clubhouse features beautifully appointed men’s and women’s facilities, a pro shop, a relaxing lounge with two huge 9’ x 6’ HD TVs for watching sports events, and Pelican Grill with its delectable California Cuisine and ocean-view terrace for al fresco dining year-round.
