Bob Hope Classic to Continue

PGA Tour Bob Hope ClassicAs a result of the auto industry's role in the economic collapse, Chrysler chose to dramatically reduce its presence at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, known for its celebrity Pro-Am, in spite of the company's standing as the event's title sponsor, completely removing its name from promotional materials and television coverage, while making no mention of itself with signage at the tournament.

In light of the company's bankruptcy filing over the weekend, the PGA Tour and Desert Classic Charities, Inc., released a joint statement reassuring the tournament's supporters that the event would remain a fixture on the PGA Tour's schedule in 2010 and beyond with or without Chrysler's financial backing.

"Chrysler has been a great partner of the tournament since 1965, and we certainly hope they can continue their partnership with us," said John Foster, president of Desert Classic Charities. "We also continue to appreciate the long-standing support provided by 2000 Volunteers, the local corporate sponsors and our 384 contestants from around the country. We look forward to welcoming the best of the PGA Tour back to the Coachella Valley next year as we continue our mission of serving human needs in the Valley."

"The foundation that has been built over the last 50 years provides solid financial footing for the Desert Classic Charities group to continue the strong traditions of the Bob Hope Classic," said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. "The Tour and Desert Classic Charities are proud of the more than $50 million that has been raised for Coachella Valley charities, of which the Eisenhower Medical Center has been the largest recipient."

The 2009 tournament, which was the 50th edition of the event, was won by Pat Perez.
