Tim Tebow Messes Around, Shoots an 80 with Phil Mickelson Watching

Tim Tebow plays golf tooOn the golf course, Tim Tebow is just like you and I.

In an interview with Jacksonville's First Coast News , Tebow said he plays for the one or two good shots per round worth remembering and appreciates the escape a golf course offers.

"I do enjoy hitting good shots, every so often, but not very often," said the University of Florida quarterback. "I enjoy getting out on the golf course and relaxing, hanging out with my friends and family."

Off the course, well that's a different story unless you happen to have a Heisman Trophy, two college football national championships, Erin Andrew's digits (I'm assuming he does), and routinely spend your free time helping underprivileged youth, talking about your faith to prisoners and helping doctors perform circumcisions in the Phillipines during Spring Break.

One of the perks of being a famous college athlete and all around do-gooder is that other celebrities want to hang with you. On Wednesday, Tebow teed it up with one of the PGA Tour's most famous faces, fellow left-hander Phil Mickelson, who was in town for the Players Championship.

The Golf Channel is reporting
that Tebow and Mickelson played 18 holes together at the private Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville. It's customary for Mickelson to play an off-site golf course during the week of a tournament. During the Masters he's been known to play exclusive layouts like Sage Valley Golf Club in nearby Graniteville.

Timuquana's Head Golf Professional Clint Avret told the Golf Channel that the each athlete gave the other a few lessons in his area of expertise.

"Phil and Tim had a lot of fun together," Avret said. "Out on the course, Phil was helping Tim with his swing technique. When they started throwing the football, Tim was helping Phil with his throwing technique.”

Avert also said that while Tebow wasn't nearly as accurate as Lefty off the tee, he was long.

"I played with Tim one time," Florida head football coach Urban Meyer told Gatorsports.com. "He's better than you'd think, and he doesn't work at it."

According to GolfChannel.com, Mr. Doesn't Work at it finished with an 80, 12 shots worse than Mickelson's 68.

I know that the media lovefest with Tebow does get a bit nauseating from time time, but in all honestly, this guy is a god. Mickelson probably rode off into the sunset thinking, "If only I could be more like Tim Tebow."

Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Tim Tebow pajamas.
