The New Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club

Magnolia Point Golf and Country ClubTucked away in the sleepy town of Green Cove Springs just south of Jacksonville is a golf and tennis community that has spent the better part of two decades as the best-kept secret in North Florida, and like all great secrets, this is one that just can’t help but be told.

Now semi-private, the Magnolia Point Golf and Country Club of today is bigger and better prepared to take its place among the top Magnolia Point Golf Communities, in Florida, and across the country.

New ownership, new management and the addition of nine new holes have combined to create a tremendous sense of pride among its longtime membership and a great feeling of excitement from golfers who are visiting the course for the first time.

The addition of the new nine, which was also designed and completed by McCumber Golf, is one of several key changes and improvements instituted by the new ownership, led by managing partner Joe Wyzkoski. A new head professional, Travis Wilson, formerly of Sawgrass Country Club, has heightened the customer service and a new superintendent, Dana Anderson, formerly from Brick Landing CC in the Myrtle Beach area, has greatly improved the conditioning of the course.

Magnolia Point For his part, Wyzkoski is very clear in his mission at Magnolia Point.

“It’s time to finish it,” Wyzkoski said of fulfilling Magnolia Point’s great promise. “We want to take it back to being a club that people will be proud to be a member of, a club that people from any other state can appreciate.”

At the heart of that plan is elevating the classic McCumber design to the status it deserves. A course that blends seamlessly with the natural environment, Magnolia Point is a nature-lovers’ dream. The course is rarely invaded by housing and is home to some of Florida’s unique wildlife, deer, wild turkeys, red-tail hawks, a protected species of turtles and an occasional gator.

Many of the golf holes are framed by beautiful moss covered oaks, tall pines, crepe myrtles and, of course, magnolias. This beautiful foliage frames fairways and serve as the perfect backdrop to many greens. It’s these plentiful and gorgeous trees that provide the sense of solitude that prevails at Magnolia Point.
