World Golf Hall of Fame - An International Celebration of Golf

The World Golf Hall of Fame, located in Northeast Florida at World Golf VillageThe World Golf Hall of Fame, located in Northeast Florida at World Golf Village, is the ultimate destination for the celebration and recognition of golf’s greatest players and contributors and serves as an inspiration to golfers and golf fans worldwide. Located between Jacksonville and historic St. Augustine off Interstate 95, the Hall of Fame has something for everyone who loves the game. Supported by all of the world’s leading golf organizations, the Hall of Fame honors over 100 members through displays of personal memorabilia, interactive exhibits and historical artifacts.

Visitors will first learn what it takes to become one of the Hall’s esteemed members and take a look at its history and signature event, the annual Induction Ceremony. Next, they receive a comprehensive look at the history of golf from its development in Scotland and the history of The Open Championship through today. Guests can take a keepsake photo of their party crossing the famous Swilcan Burn Bridge at the Old Course at St. Andrews with The R&A Clubhouse in the background, and also try their hand at putting with hickory-shafted putters and gutta-percha balls on a replica 1880s-style putting green.

Members are paid a distinctive tribute in Shell Hall, named for the Hall of Fame’s founding partner, Shell Oil Company, where an expansive “Wall of Fame” features hand-crafted bronze plaques of each member.

At the top of the World Golf Hall of Fame Tower is The Trophy Room, which displays all of the sport’s significant tournament trophies, including men’s and women’s majors, which represent the pinnacle of the game’s success. The Member Locker Room contains a solid wood locker for each member, giving the guests opportunity to view over 1,000 pieces of authentic memorabilia. Guests can compete against other visitors or those in their party to try and sink a long putt on a modern tournament-style green under the lights and cameras of a Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf match.

Each year, the World Golf Hall of Fame opens special temporary exhibits featuring its members, such as Gary Player: A Global Journey (open Spring 2007), as well as exhibits that honor the most recent Hall of Fame Inductees. The 2006 Induction Ceremony, held on Monday, October 30th, welcomed Vijay Singh, Larry Nelson, Henry Picard, Mark McCormack and Marilynn Smith whose exhibits are on display.

The World Golf Hall of Fame is open 10 am-6 pm Monday through Saturday and 12 pm-6 pm on Sunday (except Thanksgiving and Christmas Days), with several guided tours daily. 904.940.4123 www.wgv.com.
