Three is the Magic Number at Rhodes Ranch

Rhodes Ranch Golf ClubIn Las Vegas, there is no shortage of activities to quicken your pulse and make your hair stand on end. But the nightlife capital of North America can also deliver when the sun is shining down on the surrounding desert landscapes.

Fifteen minutes from the iridescent Vegas Strip, you’ll find Rhodes Ranch Golf Club, a Ted Robinson, Sr., design highlighted by four heart pounding par 3s that the architect proudly refers to as the “best collection of short holes I’ve ever built.”

Lush green grasses and pearl blue water features stand in contrast to the sandy mountain terrain that encircles the layout. You’ll notice plenty of undulation as you traverse the grounds, and take in views of the Spring Valley Mountains and downtown in the distance.

You will appreciate Rhodes Ranch ( for the unbelievable scenery, but the service, “player friendly” design and undeniable value offered here will bring you back.

If you’re in search of a second stop during your stay in Sin City, try the sister course of Rhodes Ranch – Tuscany Golf Club. Tuscany is an equally spectacular daily-fee course designed by Robinson that provides playability, beauty and intrigue.

Begin with a Bang

The best was saved for the third at Rhodes Ranch.

Three is the Magic Number at Rhodes Ranch

In a matter of thirty minutes, you’ll discover why Robinson was so high on the par 3s that he expertly placed throughout this desert oasis. The signature hole, the 227-yard par-3 3rd , is ironically also the third stroke hole.

Nearly 30 professional golfers call Las Vegas home, and even those accomplished performers would exercise caution when approaching the water hazard guarding the entire right side of the green. Unless you’re Dustin Johnson or John Daly, don’t go reaching for a club with much loft – you’ll need a long iron or fairway wood to reach the green. Overshoot your target, and you could find yourself standing in any one of three bunkers beyond the putting surface. If you clear the water but come up short, there’s a white sand pot bunker lying in wait.

A wonderfully picturesque hole is actually the devil in disguise and just the beginning at Rhodes Ranch.

Don’t get the wrong impression – there are a number of risk-reward decisions to make, such as a going for it on a driveable par 4 and those terrific par 3s, but overall Rhodes Ranch is very playable. The course measures between 5,238 and 6,909 yards, and there are four different tee placements to choose from.

Conditions at this Las Vegas gem range from excellent to outstanding, especially on the greens where consistency and true roll come standard.

Three is the Magic Number at Rhodes RanchAn emphasis on playability results in fewer searches for lost balls, meaning you won’t spend your entire day here.

“We really pride ourselves on our pace of play out here especially compared to a lot of resort courses,” said General Manager Tate Stull. “It’s a very player friendly course.”

Before you begin your round, take advantage of the complimentary range balls offered at Rhodes Ranch. The club’s fullservice practice facility features one of the largest putting greens in Southern Nevada, a bunker area, chipping area and grass and mat tees. Rhodes Ranch also offers topnotch TaylorMade r9 rental clubs.

Once you’re on course, let the club’s Golf Logix GPS system guide you from hole to hole.

Undeniable Value

Rhodes Ranch opened at the peak of the golf construction boom in the late 1990s, and found itself surrounded by opulent layouts catering to jackpot winners and jet setters. Some of those courses have vanished from the Las Vegas scene, but Rhodes Ranch is still standing and continues to be a tremendous value.

Based on conditions and playabilty, Rhodes Ranch compares quite favorably to its competition on and off the Strip. The course was named a “Best Value” by Vegas Golfer Magazine. In addition to accolades for its competitive pricing, the layout has been hailed as one of the most underrated in the area.

You should also expect a satisfying, full-service experience from a hardworking staff.

We will greet you when you arrive and provide you with an exceptional golf adventure right until the time that we load your clubs back into your vehicle and you return back to your resort or home,” said Stull. “Everything in between will be exceptional.”

Among the amenities at Rhodes Ranch is a restaurant and bar area that serves what could be deemed as “comfort food” to golfers in need of a snack or cold beer. Sit back and watch your favorite sporting event on a high-definition television while you sample the club’s bar menu that includes cheeseburgers, salads and even tasty pasta dishes.
