Willow Creek

Just a short drive from the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, “Over the Hump,” as the locals like to say, is Pahrump. This quaint bedroom community sits in a valley surrounded by breathtaking views of Mount Charleston and the Nopah and Spring Mounta n ranges. For golfers, Pahrump offers some of the best golf values in Southern Nevada.

When the first major housing developments began in Pahrump nearly 25 years ago, the focal point of their sales and marketing effort was a William Bell designed 18 hole championship course now known as Willow Creek Championship Golf Course. The course sits in the heart of Pahrump on 178 acres of prime real estate with mature landscaping with scenic vistas from almost every hole. Over the years, it has become a favorite for locals and savvy travelers seeking quality golf on a championship course at very affordable prices.

Willow Creek’s inviting yet challenging layout features water in play on 8 of the 18 holes. Players are pleasantly surprised by the wide open ryegrass fairways lined by majestic twenty-year old weeping willow and cottonwood trees. And then there’s Willow Creek’s signature bentgrass greens. Just ask any local, “…they’re the best bentgrass greens in the valley!”

The first tee, a 443 yard dogleg-right par-four sets the tone for the day. At 7,025 yards from the back tees, and roughly 500 yards less from each of four descending tee sets, Willow Creek is both inviting to the casual player and challenging for those who brave the blacks. All but two of the 11 par-4 holes are over four hundred yards from the back tees, and the three par-5 holes play 517, 547 and 569 yards. The shortest of the four par-three holes plays 172 yards.

Willow Creek’s signature hole is No. 14, a 172-yard par-3 over water. The green is further guarded by a large tree located front left and two more on the right. No. 17 is a 569-yard, dogleg-left par-5 that features a large pond across the fairway located halfway to the green. Lay up close enough to the water, and you may be able to reach it in two.

The course offers a full array of amenities including club rentals, a driving range, chipping green and putting greens and a newly remodeled pro shop. The dining room caters to groups up to 144 for banquets and parties. Willow Creek is also available for tournaments, outings, and charity events and can arrange for overnight accommodations with discount prices for groups wishing to stay and play overnight in Pahrump.
