10th Wendy's Charity Classic to Showcase Legends of the LPGA

Rosie JonesThe Wendy’s Charity Classic, hosted by LPGA Tour veteran Elaine Crosby and featuring some of the greatest names in women’s professional golf, will return to Jackson for its 10th year on August 8-9, 2010.

This one-day Legends Tour tournament and one-day pro-am held at the Country Club of Jackson has raised over $1.3 million for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and adoption agencies across Michigan and into northern Ohio. The Legends Tour, also celebrating its 10th year, is the official senior tour of the LPGA.

“We’re excited to bring the Legends back to Jackson and to continue to support such a great cause,” said Crosby, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour who has also nabbed one win on The Legends Tour. “It’s great for me because I get to bring in some terrific golfers who also happen to be my friends from the Tour. And they are all really pleased to be able to help the charity.”

This year’s field includes all past champions of previous tournaments and pro-ams and one newcomer who is not exactly new to the game: LPGA Hall of Famer Betsy King.

King won 34 times on the LPGA Tour, including six major championships. She also captained the 2007 U.S. Team Solheim Cup win in Europe - only the second time in history either team has won on foreign soil.

“Betsy is an awesome addition to the pro shootout on Sunday and will be a hot ticket for the pro-am on Monday as well,” noted Crosby. Sunday’s 18-hole tournament, the Wendy’s Charity Challenge presented by Aveeno, was added to the event in 2007. Past champions of the pro tournament include Rosie Jones (2007, 5-under), Cindy Figg-Currier (2008, 6 under) and Christa Johnson (2009, 3-under).

“We’re proud to have done this for 10 years now,” said Mark Behm, event chairperson and president of Stanton & Associates, owner/operator of 61 Wendy’s restaurants in Michigan. “It’s a tremendous community event with a strong following and we are very grateful to the sponsors and supporters who make it possible to raise the charitable funds we do each year for adoption. We hope to see a lot of area golf fans out there this year – these ladies are truly a joy to watch.”

Field To Date: Pat Bradley, Jane Crafter, Elaine Crosby, Michelle Estill, Cindy Figg-Currier, Allison Finney, Gail Graham, Nancy Harvey, Christa Johnson, Rosie Jones, Betsy King, Debbie Massey, Cindy Rarick, Nancy Scranton, Val Skinner, Jan Stephenson, Sherri Turner, Colleen Walker, Lori West for Sunday’s Wendy’s Charity Challenge presented by Aveeno.
