Anderson Brothers Win Senior Four-Ball

Doug (Bay City) and Scott Anderson (Midland) survived a five-hole playoff between four teams to win the 6th GAM Senior Four-Ball Aug. 14 at Walnut Hills Country Club.

The tandem shot a 9-under par 63 in the first round, then logged a one-over 73 in the second round.

“When it was all said and done we were happy to be in the playoff,” said Doug. “We didn’t think we played well enough to get there.”

One team was ousted after the first playoff hole; the second team was ousted after three. That left the Andersons along with the team they had played with for the entire tournament: Ian Harris (Bloomfield Hills) and Mike Raymond (Jackson).

“Everyone had chances for birdies and couldn’t get them in,” said Doug.  “Scott made the 12-footer to get the birdie on the fifth playoff hole and that was the end. It was fun and we had a good time. We were happy we were in the playoffs but we were kicking ourselves we shot that poorly.”

The Andersons made several birdie putts in the first round, but in the second round kept leaving themselves with long putts for birdie that were very difficult to make.

“When we did get a decent drive, we had a hard time getting up and down. We just struggled all day,” said Doug. “We had 25 and 35 footers for birdie all day long and you just don’t make many of those.”

In fact, the Andersons did not have one birdie on the last nine holes of regulation. Harris and Raymond also struggled with putting and did not manage a birdie on the last nine either.

“We just didn’t have it,” said Doug.  “It all worked out -- at least for us. This is the first time either of us has won a GAM tournament so we are pretty excited to say the least. “
