Big Names Added to Buick Open Field

Boo WeekleyGRAND BLANC - Stuart Appleby, Chad Campbell, David Duval, Billy Mayfair, Andres Romero, Rory Sabbatini, Nick Watney and Boo Weekley are among the latest players to commit to the 2009 Buick Open to be held Monday-Sunday, July 27-August 2 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan. The field for the 2009 Buick Open is conditional and will continue to take shape until the 5 p.m. (ET) commitment deadline on Friday, July 24.

“The field for the Buick Open continues to gel, and we are delighted with the commitments thus far,” said Buick Open tournament director Robb Grainger.  “The list of Buick Open competitors will grow and evolve throughout the week, so it will continue to get interesting.  Once play begins, we have no doubt that this will be a tournament that will delight fans.”

Watney, who captured the crown at the 2009 Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, has also posted a second-place finish at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship, and has earned a total of 10 Top 25 finishes so far this season on the PGA Tour.

Duval was the 2009 U.S. Open runner-up, finishing just two strokes behind Lucas Glover. From 1997 to 2001, he won 13 PGA Tour events, including the 1997 Tour Championship, the 1999 Players Championship, and the 2001 Open Championship, as well as the 2001 Dunlop Phoenix and the 2000 World Cup (with Tiger Woods) internationally. A two-time Ryder Cup member, he has tied for second in both the 1998 and 2001 Masters.  He last appeared at the Buick Open in 1997.

With the addition of Mayfair, who won the Buick Open in 1998, a total of eight former Buick Open champions will fill the tournament field, including Rocco Mediate (2000), Brian Bateman (2007), Jim Furyk (2003), Tom Pernice Jr. (1999), Justin Leonard (1996), Brad Faxon (1991) and Scott Verplank (1988).

David Duval will compete in the 2009 Buick Open

Sabbatini captured victory at the HP Byron Nelson Championship earlier this year, and has posted a total of four Top 10 finishes so far this season on the PGA Tour. He has only made one appearance at Warwick previously, missing the cut in 1999.

Weekley, a 2008 Ryder Cup member and 2007 World Cup participant, has recorded eight Top 25 finishes this year on Tour, while Campbell has posted four Top 25 finishes. Weekley and Campbell will each be making their second appearance at the Buick Open.

On the PGA Tour so far this season, Appleby and Romero have both posted two Top 25 finishes. This will be the first Buick Open appearance for Romero.

The 2009 Buick Open field will compete for a record $5.1 million purse, including a $918,000 first prize.
