The purpose of the seminar is provide information and help answer those questions involved with the development of the junior golfer and the road to college golf.

Topics include - How to practice, what is a good practice routine and drills you should be working on? What types of common swing faults do instructors see with juniors? What types of schools should you be interested in and what are college coaches looking for when recruiting and determining scholarship offers? How the recruiting process works and what is the timeline for this process?

Through this “Developing Your Junior Golfer” seminar the Michigan Junior Tour will hit on all these topics any many more to help simplify this process and provide valuable information.

Over the past two years the University of Michigan men’s golf team has earned back-to-back NCAA regional appearances including making it to the national semifinal in 2008-2009. The Michigan Junior Tour is fortunate to have Andrew Sapp, the University of Michigan men’s head golf coach, Chris Whitten, the assistant men’s coach and Cheryl Stacy, the University of Michigan women’s golf coach provide an inside look into their programs.

They will touch on the college recruiting process, what they look for and see from incoming junior golfers and what juniors should be doing to help prepare themselves if they have an interest in college golf at any level. They will also provide info and instruction on what they work on with their players including drills and practice routines.

Another portion of the seminar will feature Jason Guss, Michigan PGA teaching professional from the Rick Smith Golf Academy at Treetops Resort. Guss is one of the top up and coming instructors in the nation as he was awarded “Top 20 Teachers Nationally Under the Age of 40” twice by Golf Digest as well as Michigan PGA Northern Michigan Teacher of the Year.

Guss will take a look at what he sees from some of the top juniors that he works with and provide instruction and information to junior golfers to help them develop and reach that next level.
